So, I have two current extremes for photos. I have a fairly large DSLR and my smartphone. I am looking to get a nice point and shoot without spending the bank so I can have something lighter than my DSLR and less bulky to backpack with, yet something good enough to get some great photos. I'd love it to have the wifi feature where I can trigger it remotely for photos and also would not mind a decent optical zoom...

Anyone with some good recommendations?

The RX100 series is kinda the legend as far as weight/size/quality goes. Even the original is great and cheap used. If you are up for a bit more bulk/weight a small mirrorless system (sony a6000 series maybe) lets you invest in glass and you can upgrade bodies as needed. Might even find you don’t need your DSLR anymore...

I got one of the RX-100s a few years ago and have really loved it, it fits into a front pocket, inside a ziplock bag to keep from getting sweaty. Photo quality is great, especially combined with Photoshop to deal with the raws. Compared to my previous DSLR I miss only a few shots due to reduced zoom range and light gathering power.
