Anyone here spent time down in the Beaver Dam Wash area in SW Utah? Anything interesting? Good hikes, camping, etc.? Thinking about paying it a visit but not seeing a lot.
Nick, Hi There! Now I have been down in this country several times. It has become a favorite place of mine, and this is all that country in extreme Southwest Utah west of the greater St. George area. This whole area here in extreme SW Utah has a bunch of open wild country where it seems as not as many people go into these areas. Now I personally need to spend more time back in here myself. And in the future do think it will be a winter hangout area for myself possibly.
Now I am a birder and this Beaver Dam Wash is a place to go for Utah Birders it seems. Here on Beaver Dam Wash is a place called Lytle Ranch which has some good birdwatching. I have been there and it was Great! Lytle Ranch has some camping spots available which is open to the public once some reservations are made. But in Beaver Dam Wash area itself, is areas of private property also. This whole area is Mojave Desert with Joshua Trees, etc. Now take a look on the map on all that country west of St' George, lots of back nooks and crannies here and there. It would be a good place to visit in the more winter months of the year. Lytle Ranch is really good birding in the spring. But since it is really desert, super hot in the summer. Now I have friends there who live in the St. George area and they have gone repeatedly all over this area in extreme SW Utah. Lots of varied habitat all over in here. Interesting rocks and rock formations in here also.
