I made a cheap Panning setup from IKEA... Mount the camera on top of this kitchen timer. 1 hr for 1 turn... $6
It is pretty slick. I drilled a hole in the bottom of it added a nut to it so I can screw a tripod plate to it so I can mount it on a tripod too.

Love the timelapse stuff Justin. How did you add in the panning motion? Do you have a tripod with some sort of motor?

Like Nick said. All the panning stuff I've done so far has been with software. I've done it two ways. After creating the timelapse in Lightroom I opened it up in my video editing software(Sony Vegas Studio) and added the panning effect. The second way and the way that I currently do it is through a program called LRTimelapse. It's acutally a really cool software program that is integrated with Lightroom. It allows you to add panning, deflicker, and it allows you to gradually change the way each frame is edited throughout a timelapse. If you use Lightroom I would suggest you check it out. It is donation-ware. I'm gonna have to check out that kitchen timer that Wes mentioned. It looks cool!

OK, so I'm heading to St George tomorrow for work and plan to do some biking after. Can anyone give me advice on what video setting works best for biking?

Wes, when you were hiking into Coyote Gulch I noticed the camera was mounted up above your pack?? Did you just use one of those Xshots and strap it to your pack?

I asked Wes this same question and he said that he mounted it on a tripod that was secured to his pack. I think he even posted a picture of it on here somewhere.

About what video setting to use, I always shoot 720p wide @60fps. 60fps seems to make the footage smoother and because of the higher frame rate slow-mo footage looks better too.

I had it clamped onto my tripod mounted on the side of my backpack. It is such a wide angle that having it a foot from my head seems futher away.
