Another storm was moving through southwestern Utah and as seems the norm this winter I headed towards Zion, this time with my northern friend Richard. We arrived in a drizzle with nice gloomy low clouds.

After driving to the end of the main canyon we stopped by Wedding Springs. A cute little spot.

We then passed through the tunnel and stopped to check out the Pine Creek slot. I thought it would encourage Richard into considering Pine Creek to be our next Zion canyoneering adventure but instead we found dangerous water flow. It could be figured that the snow and rain would cause some flow but that drainage had picked up far more than I anticipated! Even further up the drainage we wouldn't dare cross the creek.

So instead of crossing the creek we decided to adventure a canyon on the northern side of the road. A small flow was happening so we figured something neat may be happening up there.

The canyon we chose turned out the be the Petroglyph Canyon that I had heard about but never knew the location of!

Shortly past the petroglyphs we found an awesome waterslide of a waterfall. We scaled the slickrock to see all the stages of the waterfall up close.

Up above the waterfall was a nice slickrock bowl with a series of potholes. Breaks in the cloud cover only added to the niceness of this area.

Continuing to follow the snowmelt we found another great trickle of a waterfall. The contrast of the water flow and the lines of the rock made this one so cool.

Further up the watercourse we hit a slot. Showering water coated the walls and a pretty little falls sat at the end.

ON the way out Richard thought a bird's eye view would be neat. So we hoofed it up a steep ridge and got a great overlook of the whole canyon and beyond.

From there we went back to the car and drove over to Kanab for dinner and a loop through Colorado City back to St G. A huge and nasty storm cell appeared to be destroying the land southward to The Grand Canyon. Just outside of CO City the sun popped out under the clouds and lit the surrounding clouds something special.

Storms make for such goodness!
