2017 Eclipse

Did anybody get any photos of Bailey's Beads? I read that you can only see them for a very short time just before totality and they're caused by light shining through the mtns and canyons of the moon. They're easier to see when you're at the outside edges of the totality path (probably the angle) then go away with totality as the diamond ring takes over.

Here's a pic from NASA

I did.. but it was with my binocular-enhanced cornea imaging on the rods and cones of my retina and forever recorded to the synapses of my grey matter (for 10 minutes). Trouble is it is hard to share except over a glass of good red...

BTW the order of Diamond Ring/Bailey's Beads/chromosphere and corona switches, neatly, at the beginning and end of totality. We saw two rings...

Our group of 5 backpackers saw it from 'Lozier Pass' (overlooking Clark Lake and the Lozier Lakes plateau) in the Wind Rivers, on day 6 of a 7-day backpacking tour that zigzagged through the north of the range. 2 of us up on Greeley Point for amazing views in all directions.

We had perfectly clear blue skies for the eclipse - as we did for the entire 7-day trek. (Never thought I'd see 7 consecutive mid-August days in the high Rockies with never a threat of summer afternoon thunderstorms...)

It was great to have @Nethos and his wife join our party of 3 for the trip.

Drove up to Bone, ID the morning of the eclipse. Took around 2.5 hours. Had virtually no traffic at all. Little bit more traffic heading home, but everyone was doing 40-45 on the dirt roads and at least the speed limit on the hwys.

@furbucket amazing photos, i absolutely love the horizon perspective. is there a difference in aperture or shutter speed between the 2nd and 3rd photos, or just the natural change in light?

Without checking my computer- aperture was f11 for all three (if I remember correctly), and with a couple of stacked ND grads... shutter speeds varied a bit. There is some post processing going on, and I should have pointed out that the first two images are two-shot composites (the brighter foreground is shot from before totality). The last image is a single shot.
Thanks for the likes and kind words!

All went well at my work. They over prepared and didn't need any of it. People came with respect and patience. Gas prices never went over $2.70 here. Man they are over $3 bucks as you go through Challis to McCall. Bleh I didn't bother trying to photograph the eclipse. But I did take lots of photos of everyone at work watching the eclipse.

I cried a bit. It was that everything I expected and more. I was overly excited to see the shadow bands on the ground and the crescent moon shaped shadows.
