    North Erickson Lake, Uinta Mountains

Don't anyone plan to camp at the Erickson Lakes in 2020. I was there in 2019 and cows were everywhere. There was no place to camp because of the cow flop and the stench was awful.

    Packard Lake

Great that you got your wife to go with you. My generation of women just don't dig camping out. Yes there is that one great view but overall I would have to say that Packard Lake really isn't worth the effort. It is a boring non scenic hike that is mostly all downhill on the way in and all...

Clements Lake and East Basin in the High Uintas, mid-July 2018

Clements is one of the better fishing lakes in the Uintas as you found out. The fish you pictured is most likely a colorado cutthroat. The DWR doesn't stock very many uinta lakes with this beautiful fish.

59 years ago today - Hebgen Lake Quake/Yellowstone

I had almost forgotten about this eve My grandfather was friendly with a person who was the major shareholder of the only private cattle ranch in the Grand Teton National Forest at that time. The ranch was accessed on a lousy dirt road that started not far from Ashton Idaho and went clear...

    Backcountry Vehicles

If you want room for 4-5 people and gear your going to have to get a pickup truck and a Toyota has the most ground clearance and is the most dependable. But they are really expensive. If you want it for 2-3 people and gear then you can go for a 4-runner, Xterra or jeep. I had an 86 4runner that...

Missing hiker in Uintas - Ray Humpherys

I think you're having a hard time understanding what I am saying. You state "Someone with his age and experience shouldn't have made such basic mistakes." Well he was mentally impaired at the time. That is why he did make those basic mistakes that you refer to.

Missing hiker in Uintas - Ray Humpherys

My apologies to you. I was commenting on a post that was directly under yours by andyjaggy (probably a response to your post) where he mentioned age and experience. It is actually quite easy to get lost when you are mentally impaired at all. I am a lot older than Mr Humphreys and I have been to...

Missing hiker in Uintas - Ray Humpherys

I find your comment to be rather cold. It seems quite obvious to me that Mr. Humpherys was mentally impaired at the time; and this has nothing to do with age or experience.

Uinta Highline Trail: Food and Bears.

Your're not going to see bears above 7-8,000 feet because there isn't enough food to make it worth their trouble. I saw one in the Uintas very close to a 4 wheel drive road while in my vehicle once at about 7,000 feet elevation. I stopped my vehicle and we stared at each other for about 2...

Uinta Highline trail - East to West - Mission Accomplished!

I really enjoyed your post. You guys have to be in fabulous shape. I just don't understand why you evidently walked all of that way and did not even take a fishing pole, reel and a few lures or flies. Atwood Lake is one of the best fishing lakes in all of the Uintas. Tungsten Lake is one of...

Hayden Peak TH to Chepeta TH in 3 days

It's always amazes me that guys like you will walk that far and pack that light but never bring a rod or reel. You can always catch fish to eat if you don't have enough food. You passed some of the best fishing lakes in the Uintas.

    Brown Duck Basin

I have no idea why you or anyone else would spend so much time and effort to go to Brown Duck Lake or any other lake in the Uintas and not do any fishing. There are hundreds of lakes in the Uintas that you can have all to yourself with not much effort.
