    Gear Review Hommade down quilt

I got most of my stuff off thu-hiker.com and just used various other's experiences online to help me get mine set. its not perfect but I love it. I used just a regular ole sewing machine. At the time I used my mom's older, but high end home sewing machine.

    Cedar City vs St. George

this is great, thanks guys! It seems that in every way but wanting to save a penny STG is a much better way to go. What are the summers like? How bike/pedestrian friendly is STG overall and are there area's that's better than others for that?

    Cedar City vs St. George

There is a very good chance I will need to relocate to southern utah in the near future. I'm trying to figure out what is the better living destination between the two cities. What's important to me: -access to outdoors for backpacking, climbing and canyoneering. Both seem to be pretty good if...

    Thermarest Down Blankets

I made my own down quilt last year and overall its been great. My biggest issue has been drafting but I modified it a few weeks ago and added some extra fabric along the sides to stuff under my pad or spread out better and it really helped. its 20oz with 2 1/2 to 3 inches of loft (not...

    pot for open flames

Hey guys, I'm looking for a small pot that can be used in open flames. Ideally something 24-32 oz. I've seen the open country 2quart kettle at REI and looks perfect...if it were smaller. I've heard amazing things about a cheap kmart grease strainer but I can't find it online. Does any one have...

    March backpacking

That mileage looks great. I'll probably be poking my head into bighorn canyon and others too. Should be respectable miles for the first trip of '13. Getting down that should be pretty simple, at least compared to getting up it haha.. I've done similar with my dog before.

    What's on your feet?

I have a ton of shoes for the trails, You'll see I'm about being as minimal as possible.. Canyoneering I have la sportiva xplorers. They're super super sticky. That's about all the good I can say about them. The sole or whole shoe hasn't been terribly durable. Winter: merrell isotherms...

    March backpacking

Ok looked up your trip report, looks pretty sweet. Camping out at lake Powell would be incredible and you're whole route looks great. My only worry is the water and temperature. Its only going to be high 50-low 60's there. I'm concerned about having to do a lot of wading with wet feet and even...

    March backpacking

Good to know Dan, thanks. checking out Dark canyon. Nick, doesn't that require some solid wading and some technical sections - ie no dogs? or am I mistaking that for another canyon?

    March backpacking

I'm going to be in the north wash area early next month and am looking to tack on a quick overnighter, maybe 2 night backpacking trip to the end. I was looking at @Aldaron's trail guide for angel cove and was wondering if there could be a modified longer route that more so included the whole of...
