My Ward's scout troop is hiking to Ryder Lake for their summer camp adventure this year. Unfortunately I won't be able to join them due to family and work commitments. Looks like a great trip.
I'll have to let you know via a trip report after I return, as I've never seen it. I was invited through a contact I met in a SL Tribune discussion. Truthfully, I have never seen any of the yurts. This experience my cause me to start seeking them.
It sounds nice by how it's described...
Well, I'm 49 now, so the only direction I'm growing is outward. I'm trying to combat that problem by walking, hiking, snowshoeing, etc. :-)
I exchanged my purchase at Recreation Outlet for a pair of Sherpas. They fit better, but are still a bit long. They are also pretty much just a shell...
I have almost as hard a time buying shoes as I do snow pants (another thread). I wear a 7. Too big for the kids section and to small for most shoes I am interested in. I did manage to find a nice pair of waterproof Columbia hiking boots last year in size 7, and snapped them up on sight.
I bought a pair of snow pants at Recreation Outlet today, but I'm going to have to exchange them in hopes I might find SOMETHING that fits better. I'm 5'3" and 168 pounds. I buy a pair of 'medium' snow pants, and it looks as though the inseam is 35" rather than the 29" or so that I need. I...
I have a scheduled snowshoe / yurt trip coming up in January, 2013. We will be snowshoeing up Norway Flats to the TUNA Yurt. This will be my first yurt excursion, and I'm quite excited about the trip.
Why does it seem all the snow clothing is geared for those over 6-feet tall with model bodies? What about those of us that are a shorter and a bit husky? I went shopping at Recreation Outlet today for snow pants or a pair of bibs. I buy a 'medium' in snow pants. The waist fits OK, but they...
Last Saturday was a good snowshoeing day. My 'hike' was just through the adjoining football fields of a Pleasant Grove elementary and middle school, but the full circumference around these fields is probably at least 3/4 mile. Three trips around and I was beginning to tire a bit. Definitely...
Close, but not quite. This is at the front side of Timp, atop "G" Mountain in Pleasant Grove, between Grove Creek and Battle Creek canyons. The top photo is a fallen tree atop the mountain, one of only a few in this meadow. Second photo is the view from a memorial bench set up at the...
I look at these canyoneering photos and wonder what sort of psych it takes to learn this. I saw in the October 'Rambler' that the Wasatch Mountain Club will be holding an upcoming rappelling class for complete beginners. Though enticing, I think I'd still be a bit timid of taking that first...
Not Clyde... a bit too far to the north. This one is Watson Lake, my first Uinta experience. This was only a one-day fishing hike. We fished Watson, Cliff, and Crystal lakes on September 22, then Trial, Marion, Star, and Haystack Lakes on the 29th. Though it's a bit late in the season now...
Thanks. I didn't think it would be as simple as figuring the weight differential. Makes sense, though. Main thing I've noticed with the ready packaged foods is their sodium content is often really high, not to mention they are seemingly expensive.
I'll look forward to trying some of your...
