How is the dirt road to the East Fork of Blacks Fork TH?

Looks like around 26 miles of dirt road to get to the East Fork of Blacks Fork TH. Is most of this dirt road in good shape? Trying to decide if the close to 3 hour drive is worth it or just use the highline trailhead at Hayden Pass.

Brooks Lake area to Younts Peak via the Continental Divide

Kmatjhwy, beautiful pictures! I have a couple more questions for you after looking over maps. Are there any sketchy sections along the CD above Jay Creek down to Two Ocean Pass? This section looks like it could have some steep/exposed stuff but hard to tell for sure. Also, is it pretty...

Brooks Lake area to Younts Peak via the Continental Divide

After reading the latest info from Kmatjhwy I've had similar ideas for a route. The mileage would be pretty high. I'm going to map out some route options over the next week to get a better idea on mileage.

Brooks Lake area to Younts Peak via the Continental Divide

Since I didn't make it into the Absaroka/Thorofare area last year I am going to try next summer. I was curious if it is possible to follow the Continental Divide from the Brooks Lake area all the way to Younts Peak. Looks like most of it would be doable but there are a couple sections I'm not...

    Gros Ventre Wilderness

This trip took place a couple weeks ago before the Sawtooth trip I posted. I took my wife and 14 yo son around a 34 mile loop in the Gros Ventre Wilderness. I put together a route that starts at the Granite Hot Springs then up Granite Creek and goes over a couple of passes before descending...

    Sawtooth Wilderness

I was tired for sure but I find if you keep moving most the day it isn't overly difficult to cover 20 miles. I'm usually packed up and on the trail before 7 and hike all day with only short breaks. I prefer to keep moving and don't spend much time at camp. Nothing wrong with that, just not...

    Sawtooth Wilderness

wabenho, the area does see quite a bit of use but it didn't seem too crowded most the time while I was hiking. Alice Lake, Cramer Lakes, Hellroaring Lake and Imogene Lakes all had quite a few people camping a them. The first night I camped above the upper Cramer Lake and no one was withing a...

    Sawtooth Wilderness

Last week I drove from Salt Lake up to explore part of the Sawtooth Wilderness. I did this trip solo cause I have a hard time finding people to backpack. I have wanted to check out the Sawtooths for a few years now and finally got around to doing it. I came up with a 53 mile loop that looked...

    Thorofare 2018

Due to lack of interest I may not be doing this trip. Been hard for me to find people to backpack with lately and only one person has expressed interest in this trip. I've decided I'm going to get back into ultra's this year instead.

    The Bob

Hopefully you guys don't mind me digging back in the archives a bit. I want to get some of my trips posted so you guys know me better. My son and I did a packrafting trip in the Bob Marshall Wilderness with a friend of ours back in 2014. Our route was a 115 mile loop with about 65 miles hiking...

    Escalante Packrafting

Larry, we did it the first week of May. We did not get it during peak flow. The gauge said 8-10 ft during the time our trip. It was floatable and fun but I would not do it that low again.

    Escalante Packrafting

Last spring a couple friends and I packrafted a 50 mile section of the Escalante River from Harris Wash to Coyote Gulch. The first day we started with a 10 mile hike down Harris Wash to the Escalante River. From there we floated down the river and camped the first night just before Neon...

    Thorofare 2018

Nick made a good suggestion that I post some trip reports so you guys could get to know me better. I just posted a report from a trip in the Southern Winds that I did with my son and one of his friends. I will get some others posted soon. Hopfully it is ok if I pull from my archives and post...

    Southern Winds

It has been suggested that I post some trip reports so people can get to know me better. Last August I did a loop route in the Southern Winds with my 20 year old son and one of his friends. My son and I have done multiple trips in the Winds but this is the first time we have explored South...

    Thorofare 2018

Absarokanaut, I will look at the other trailheads you mentioned. I have never been in that area before. The closest I have been is a short packrafting day trip on Pacific Creek. That is very kind of you to offer a possible shuttle. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the info.
