Hey good catch @Titans - not sure what happened. I made some edits last night and did a copy and paste and I think when I typed control+v I must not have just hit v. Need to remember to proof read : )
Plan B
February 9, 2019
Some weeks in ones life are better than others.
This was one of the better ones.
We had a jaunt planned to the east but a gentle heads up was given about lack of water in the area (thanks, Ace) and so two days before launch we...
A Rainy Return
I’ve been thinking for a while now that if you were going to artificially construct an ideal packrafting playground it would look very much like Canyonlands National Park.
Scenic, little traveled egress points abound...
Yo Nick - I have one of these on my '06 Tundra. I have the Fleet model and I got it used as a shell model with a few options installed but its pretty bare bones. A buddy has the Finch on his Tacoma - again just the shell. Him and I are both obsessed with these campers. I've had mine for...
Gather at the River
March 27, 2018
I'd say it was late winter when it started to become clear that the Dolores was going to run. The calendar on the wall sitting vacant May and June suddenly became something more. This was the event of the year in terms of trip planning and primacy was...
Food for thought. I tend to disagree with the article but its worth a read and I can at least understand Stiles' points...... The comments section is particularly interesting:

Interesting discussion. Will also throw in the fact that I have this book of photos of Glen Canyon pre-dam sitting on my coffee table at home. The title is apt and speaks to the discussion above "The Place No One Knew." One big reason Brower/Sierra Club "traded" the proposed dam in Dinosaur...
Thanks everyone!
@swmalone We didn't visit any hot-springs on this trip but i hear ya. I've run the lower Owyhee a few times (dying to get on the East Fork and South Forks!!!) and visited some of the hot-springs on that stretch, Amazing country for sure!
@Selway - we ran it around 750cfs...
There are some hard truths one has to accept as they get older. First - is it becomes increasingly clear that time is not on your side and you will not be able to see "everything." Another is that you will never be as skilled as your older brother navigating rivers. These things can be hard...
Hey I'm headed to the same spot in a week for a packraft trip with my dad. I think its still a bit early for peak run-off by a few weeks but I am watching closely. Here is a link to the gauge run-off projections to keep an eye on - http://www.cbrfc.noaa.gov/station/flowplot/flowplot.cgi?escu1...
We did a similar loop a year or so ago. We came up Dark and went out Youngs to Fable, dropping into Gypsum via the Powell route, back to the river and then back to waterhole flat via Easter Pasture. You do have to climb completely out of Youngs and then find a spot to drop back into the canyon...
One of my favorite aspect of walking in the desert southwest is the three dimensional nature of said walking. Yes the landscape is beautiful, but the extra magic comes in the form of the outdoor museum - the history of people who've come before. Often, simple day hikes are undertaken simply to...
