Which size bear can are you using? and how much food are you packing? Maybe the toiletries are too big? All of the ones I pack for Ashley and I take up the size of a dinner meal.
Regarding what to do with the can, it depends on the areas you go. For example, I believe rangers still want you to...
Is the Aether the AG one? Have seen the volt before and always thought it struggle to carry the BV500 sideways (how I pack it in my 65 atmos). Can you check out the pack in person w/ your bearcan?
Hopefully SPOT can help you with the issues you're having. Kind of shocked to see the battery is only lasting 2 to 2.5 hours :/
I'm currently using an InReach SE and connect to it using the smartphone app. May try the new mini as I mainly communicate through my smartphone (which acts as my gps...
I would suggest heading out to the backcountry with more experienced people for the first few times. Gives you a chance to get your bearings. After that, you could start doing solo trips on relatively popular trails so you don't feel too alone out there. The benefit of going solo is you're...
Hello all!
Hope all has been going well. It's been awhile so I decided to catch up on some trip reports!
As it was a relatively dry winter, my partner and I didn't really go out much this past season. With cabin fever creeping in, we decided we had to get out and away from the...
Did the first part of it near bryce point in winter last year. Was pretty nice!
When I did it in Spring a few years back, not many folks went past the second set of hoodoos

If you have any questions regarding feathered friends products, feel free to message me! I have quite a few of their bags and love em. Also have a few of the newer marmot bags too
Seeing how winter was going to end early (not sure it ever really started..), my friend and I decided to look for snow before it all melted. Seeing how Yosemite was looking dry and having gone to SEKI in the past week, we planned to check out the Eastern Sierra. With the NOAA data showing areas...
I used to run a 3 bag line up: -5F 15F 30F
The 15F is a Marmot Pinnacle which actually tested for 10F. Thought I'd use it a lot for shoulder season trips but ended up using my Marmot Phase 30F more since its so light. If its going to be a particular cold night, then I usually bring a light down...
I've used both WM and FF bags and love em. If I had to pick, I like the FF hoods better than the WM hood. The way they shaped the top part of it allows me to not have to cinch down so tight to keep warm. That being said, you can't go wrong with either.
I did it in snow back in ...2015? Like the others are saying, there are areas going up that can be sketchy when there's ice/snow. I brought crampons along for my trip.
Also did the East Rim in snow. That's a nice one if you make it up to Cable mountain! Didn't really need snowshoes though as...
Hey Hey welcome to the forums fellow Californian!
IF I had the time, I'd love to get into more offroading. It was definitely a blast riding an atv on the outskirts of grand teton!
