Thank God there's only black bears where we're headed. If I absolutely got to wrestle a bear, I'd rather not deal with a grizzly.

It's definitely a big a tent. The largest we've had. I wasn't going to buy this one, but my little girl fell in love with it, and the price was good.

Well, our frontcountry "domesticated campground" tent finally bit the dust. Today we scored a 6 man Coleman Weathermaster from a local wholesaler. We got this bad boy for close to half price. We'll use this on our trip in March where we'll be doing loop day hikes over spring break.
Nice tub...
My daughter has decided she wants to make a youtube channel about our trips and gear review. Below is a link of her review on the Dpower stove from amazon.
I don't get why tents are made to need a foot print, it makes no sense to me. Why not just build them with a suitable tub pan vinyl floor? I guess that's to market to the ultra light packers?

Well, my old coleman lanterns finally bit the dust. I tried new pumps, generators, cleaning them, etc, etc. But no luck. These lanterns were nearly 40 years old, so I guess they got their full use.
I'll be getting the coleman dual fuel lantern to replace these three that went down for our...
What weight do you all try to keep your tents under or around?
I'm looking for a tent I could get two people in, maybe packs and boots as well.
There are so many options.
If you've used something like I mentioned in the past, what was it and would you recommend it?

I'd like to hit the park, I was thinking about coming in through Deep Creek Campground. There's lot of trails and backcountry camp sites.
I see you need a permit for backpacking and back country camping, but do you also need a permit for the front country campsites?

I'm glad you mentioned the Brunton compass. I've had their TruArc 15 Compass on my radar while watching reviews and reading up!
Adjustable declination is one of my first requirements before I pull the trigger on one. There is know way I want additional stress of remembering the degree of...
I think we'll plan a trip for the Smoky Mountains first.
I'd like to plan a 3 night trip where we hike in to two different camps. Stopping back at the first camp for the last night before heading out.
Not sure how easy it is to find or plan something like that. But, the goal is to be ready...
She's 7, and man she's eating this stuff up.
We're taking a small trip to Huntsville State Park this spring to hone some of our gear, work on compass skills, and we'll hike a small few loops to see how she feels.
My hope, one day, is we'll be planing big trips to Northern California...
