Brent - thanks for posting this! I realized that my being ill over days 2-4 were going to make my trip reports a bit sketchy. Really appreciate you documenting this really well. You have a knack for it as well.
My fourth multi-day backpacking trip was quite the adventure. @Curt, @b.stark, myself and SteveW set out from Moab, UT with Tex's Riverways on Tuesday morning, April 23rd. There were six of us on the bus down to Potash to take the boat down to Spanish Bottom. Pete and his wife Ruth were doing an...
I haven't written up our trip report yet, but will share what we did from 4/25 to 4/29:
Day 1: Spanish Bottom to Confluence Spur (38.18320,-109.91707)
Day 2: Confluence Spur to Water Canyon - Chimney Rock - Pictograph Confluence (near 38.2290, -109.9873)
Day 3: Pictograph Confluence to Lower...
Thanks for the report John! In regards to the pothole a bit north of Beehive Arch. Think there was enough there to last until next week? We'll be passing by there next Tuesday afternoon.
"We found a really nice spring here: 38.200761,-109.996265. Could totally dry up but it was flowing well in May 2012."
This location is corroborated by a video taken by Joey Coconato in 2015. We're hoping to find it next week when we visit.
All,
Headed out on Sunday, April 23rd from Phoenix (Chandler, AZ to be exact). We are headed north thru Page, AZ and weather permitting will head up Cottonwood Canyon Road to Cannonville. We plan to take UT-12 from Cannonville to Torrey, then up UT-24 to Green River.
Google Maps is showing 3...
Hi All,
I started lurking on this site a few months back when my uncle @Curt posted some possible itineraries for our late-April 2017 trip to The Maze. @Nick has been great with the advice, as have many others. Will be certain to post a TR once we get home!
My backpacking experience started in...
@Nick - looks like Tex's Riverways shuttle schedule will keep us out in The Maze one extra day. If you had one extra day to spend on this adventure, what else would you have done? The Fins? A better view of Chocolate Drops? Water Canyon to Green River? something else?
@Nick - we'll be coming in from Green River the night before we head down the Colorado to Spanish Bottom. Can you recommend a site/sites to consider for camping the night before? The Butler Wash site in particular, sounded good. You have GPS coordinates for it by chance?
@Nick - I get motion sickness pretty easily (won't go into detail on my recent whalewatching trip in San Diego). Wondering what your thoughts are on the jet boat rides - should I plan to take some meclizine (less-drowsy Dramamine) to help myself cope?
@Joey - we are planning a loop in The Maze in late April. Your video was a great reminder for me to be hitting the gym ASAP to get my body ready for the heavy pack. I sent it to our group as a reminder to be prepared for wind/rain. :)
