I wouldn’t go out in hopes of something specific. If you plan a day in town afterwards it’s worth a shot. Items are organized somewhat. Sleeping bags piled in a box. Shoes and boots start off sectioned by men’s and women’s. Was never impressed with the clothing prices. Some footwear is real...
Is this possible without some redundant gear? I can't think of a versatile ground insulation that works for both. Pads in a hammock don't get a lot of love and underquilts don't work on the ground. Am I missing something? Or is carrying both not too redundant?
Really depends on when, where and how long.
I'm in Colorado and my trips are between 7k and 11k ft. Even summer can be cold. For higher elevations I want my three layer hard shell. When worn over my insulation it retains more heat than a marmot precip (2.5 layer).
If was thru hiking the a.t...
Thanks! I just got two from sams club. This is how we solved the packable kids bag dilemma. Bought another adult bag, they actually pack smaller than any kid bag. If your interested it was the kelty tuck 30, 2.5 pounds compresses to about 9x8. Its actually en rated too for under $100.
The...
Floorless is fine its the bugs that bothers everyone but me, so a net is a must. When I said four person I forgot to count the golden retriever [emoji2]
Thanks everyone! Pstm13 that megalight may be tight but I like the way you think. At that weight I'd take it when only a 2 person shelter is needed and for the prices I'm finding its very reasonable to suit all my needs.
This will be for when the kid(s) go with so not real far or difficult terrain.
Shooting for about 5-6 pounds including stakes, guy lines, etc. Hopefully under $200. Don't want to go the Walmart route, again.
Wife and I love our klymits. Just got the junior or 3/4 pad and man is that a nice buy! Packs down to about the size of a monster energy drink weighs 14.2 on my scale with repair kit and stuff sack. There is lighter but for $40 I'm happy.
Wife uses the v lite insulated and again great...
If this is crazy let me know. Thinking about removing the insulation from the bottom of my bag. Why? I understand that it gets compressed rendering it useless, becoming unneeded bulk and weight. I don't have money for a quilt but have access to a sewing machine to patch it up. Essentially a...
Would like to know as well. I thought about treating a merino wool shirt. You don't have to wash merino as often but afraid it may deteriorate the wool. Has to be something beneficial to doing it in the manufacturing process, same dilemma with dwr treatments.
My goal has been to find my comfortable loaded pack weight including food and water. Then try to shave 5 pounds. That allows room for trip specific luxuries like camera equipment, fishing stuff etc. That way I can still still hit my comfort zone. I did take my 35 degree bag once when my 20...
Thought I would give a bit of my background and interests. Busy life keeps me from getting out as much as I would like, but I appreciate every minute I get outdoors. I'm a gear junky with a love for d.i.y projects. Currently trying to get my gear somewhere between light and ultra light. Look...
