Lets be clear, this is an appropriate question: "Can you have fires at Ryder Lake?" That is an acceptable question which would have gotten a nice response from me.
This is not a question by Windy. Here was Windy's first post. "I do believe that fires are prohibited at Ryder lake @Dr Nebz...
For the record, all of my camp sites have been legal and I always follow the rules. If you had been backpacking with me you would know this.
There are many posts on this thread which I could question the legality of their camp selections and locations. But I am not the camp police. I just...
1/4 mile from the lake is the permanent closure order for fires. They are not banned. Read the top line in the link you posted. I’m well aware of the regulations in the Uintas.
Awesome stuff! Winter is beautiful! Before I got a splitboard I was snowshoeing for my turns. Snowshoeing is a lot of fun. Just be careful in avalanche terrain. If you are going to travel in steep terrain you need to know about avalanches. Here is a shot of me on my MSR Lightning Ascents before...
The water year is good. We needed it. The snow has been good as well. Six feet in the Cottonwoods over the last seven days. Look at the Tooele snow pack 143%! Wow! This will help keep the fires down this summer. Rivers and streams are gonna run high this year. Should make for a great summer!
Here is my 2018 Retrospective video. I do one of these every year. It is amazing to look back at all the places I was able to visit and all the adventures had for the year. 2018 was a good one! Happy New Year everyone! Here's to a great 2019!!!
Everything is gonna be determined by how big or small of winter we have this season.
Ideally these are some of the adventures on the list in no particular order:
Spider Lake- Uintas
Henry’s Fork- Uintas
Ruby Mountains- Nevada
Four Lakes Basin- Uintas
Erickson Lakes- Uintas
The usual haunts...
Splitboarding is the answer! :D I am glad I learned to ski. It makes skinning, kick turns, and skating across the flats a breeze while touring.
I always wear a helmet. If I break my leg or arm they can fix that. If I break my brain its over. Not that mine is in that great of shape anyways...
It was a rather nice year in the mountains. I was able to visit some new areas that were on the bucket list. Returned to some of my favorite haunts. Also spent a week on the Oregon Coast for my birthday! The only let down was how few days I got on the snow last season. I only got five days on...
Awesome! I was in both areas in June! I went to Teal Lake early June, and Cuberant Basin towards the end of June. Love the flowers! Makes me miss the Uintas.
You need to get avalche rescue gear and take an avy class if you want to get into splitboarding. Avalanches kill and you have to know how to avoid them.
I would probably rent some alpine skis and boots, and take a lesson or two before jumping into an AT or Tele set up. I alpine ski'ed before I tried tele's. I'm really glad I did. Tele was a lot of fun, but a lot of work. Droppin' Da Knee! Skiing ended up not being my thing. I turned to the dark...
