    Volt 75 or Aether 70?

Second on trying it on first. I'm 6' with a longish torso, and also wear a medium or large (seems like I was right between sizes, but I can't remember which one I got!) in Osprey packs. I have the Aether AG. Bought last year, only a couple trips with it, but it holds a lot of stuff. I don't...

I am thinking Death Hollow in Escalante might do the trick. Anyone with experience on this route?

Dog friendly 1-2 night trip within a couple hours of I70 in Utah or Colorado...

My dad is traveling across I70 in a couple of weeks, and he has a few days to spare. I'm trying to figure out a decent 1 or 2 night trip that is: 1) Within an hour or so of I70 2) allows dogs (so National Parks are out) 3) not too hot for the last week of June -- looking for slot canyons...

What is your sleeping bag lineup?

I have a couple of insulated pads which are around a 3.5-4 r Value. Which I read should be good down to below freezing. But yeah, an Xtherm or equivalent is on my shopping list.

What is your sleeping bag lineup?

I can fit in the 64" WM bags comfortably. Well, the Megalite, at least, which I was really impressed with when I looked at it in a store. The Terralite is another one I've been considering. Sounds like a really comfy bag for a bigger person or someone who moves around a lot. I'm kinda going...

What is your sleeping bag lineup?

Why so close in range? Are you looking to replace the Hummingbird with the Versalite? Also, I've never laid hands on a FF bag. I've heard they are every bit the product that the WM bags are. Is that true in your opinion?

What is your sleeping bag lineup?

Thanks. Unfortunately, most of the big brands tend to be a little too tight for me. The Magma does look like a nice bag. How accurate do you find the temperature rating?

What is your sleeping bag lineup?

Do you not get way too hot in the 20* WM bag in the summer (say, 45 degree nights)? I guess that is my concern about a bag like the WM Megalite or the FF Kestrel (both nominal 30* bags). I spent about 5 minutes in a Megalite trying it on and I could tell it was a really warm bag. I've always...

What is your sleeping bag lineup?

I'm looking to add another bag to my sleeping bag lineup. Or, probably, two bags over the next couple of years and retire my current one, as it is kinda heavy and I seem to be turning into a bit of a weight weeny type. I presently have a Montbell Down Hugger #1 (nominally rated at 15* in the...

    Winter in the desert

Do you just drape the quilt over the top of your bag? I've been thinking about taking this approach (although with a down quilt, probably). Also, what is the temp rating of the quilt you use?

Thinking Seriously About a Real Camera

Nice. Having a camera has added a new element to my trips. Kinda fun, and helps me slow down a bit sometimes, too! I just need to learn to use the damn thing now ...

Thinking Seriously About a Real Camera

I don't know a lot about cameras, but what sold me on the a6000 vs. the Cybershot (don't know which model, but probably the one that was current last November) was the fact that the a6000 isn't much bigger (with the kit lens), has the ability to use different lenses if I ever get into that, and...

How Do You Carry Your Camera While Backpacking?

There is a velcro strap on the back of the case. It worked well -- it has a double velcro tab (not sure how to explain exactly, but a second little velcro tab goes over the strap to provide double velcro redundancy). Anyway, it seems quite secure. I carried it for about 20 miles this weekend...

    Backcountry Vehicles

This is a pretty good suggestion IMO. They are tough and durable (everything is mechanical), roomy, etc. Not fuel efficient.

    Backcountry Vehicles

I had an '07 Subaru Outback for about 11 months. Was also probably the worst car I've owned. Way smaller inside than it looked, horrible mpg (my F150 gets about the same), used oil and coolant like crazy. The '10 and newer are a lot better, though. Much more space and better mpg w/ the CVT...

How Do You Carry Your Camera While Backpacking?

I actually just bought an Osprey ultralight camera case for my Sony a6000. I don't know how well it works yet; heading out tomorrow. But it can hook to the waist belt of my pack and is just the right size for the a6000 w/ kit lense (or similar).

    Backcountry Vehicles

Lot of options out there, to be sure. I've been very happy with a full size crew cab pickup after years of owning mid-sized SUVs. Much more versatile, about the same mpg. A little more buy-in, probably (not sure what 10 yr old 4-runners are going for these days), but they have done everything...

    Buckskin or Coyote this week?

Thanks guys. I'm going to stick to something away from water this time -- I'm doing a loop in the Needles District. I have been there before, but not since college, so it will be kind of new. But your recommendations are appreciated!

    Buckskin or Coyote this week?

So, the second half of the week has opened up for me, and I want to go check out a one of the routes that have been on my list for a long time. Any thoughts about Coyote or Buckskin this time of year? Mostly concerned about being in the water too much -- temps are supposed to approach freezing...
