Some Adirondack photos from the other day. The first photo of the old fence was taken at John Brown’s farm outside of Lake Placid. (hopefully you know your history to know who he was)

    Album Snow and Winter Shots

We haven’t had a lot of snow this winter, but there were some snow squalls this morning while skiing at our local mountain. This is looking down from the top … somewhere down there is the area’s lodge! The snowmaking crew at our little ski area does a great job … the snow on this run is a...

    Album Snow and Winter Shots

As an east coast non-tele downhill skier who’s used to crusty groomed slopes, that powder looks amazing. Not that I could ever manage skiing in that! Your photos are stunning!

    What's Cooking?

@scatman this looks delicious! And kudos for cooking on an electric stove. Jackie made venison chili last week and it turned out great. Sadly I missed the opportunity to take photos. She used a slow cooker rather than a Dutch oven.

    What's Cooking?

How was it? Is there anything that you might change if you prepare it again? I’m with you on the green beans>peas. I’d eliminate the peas altogether.

    Adirondacks, NY, part 2 of 5, 10/7, 2022

This was, I believe, Columbus Day weekend and Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, and so this particular area of the Adirondacks does get pretty busy and often overcrowded. Since that area can be busy there can be more rangers on duty (often assistant forest rangers).

@Fungi … I’m guessing that you had a BearVault canister? The DEC stopped approving them after the bear “yellow-yellow“ learned how to open them and then taught her cubs the same. That was a number of years ago but I think the DEC is erring on the side of caution. (“yellow-yellow” referred to...

Will you be able to ride your bike if weather permits? Do you have a stationary bike or access to one? Hopefully you’ll be able to control those urges to “push it”! Just take care of yourself. And we do need more Cooking with Scatman posts!

    Adirondacks, NY, part 1 of 5, 10/6-7, 2022

High Peaks region can get pretty crowded at times with people attempting to complete their 46er list (46 peaks over 4K, with a patch when completed). There are several areas where you can do longer trips outside of the high peaks area … and plenty of opportunities for canoeing adventures. The...
