For those with firsthand ,long-term experience with these, how durable and weather proof are they? Ventilation/condensation? Does it flap in these constant Colorado Plateau/Mojave desert winds? Dust and rain stay outside? Stays tight and secure in transit along washboard and rocky 4WD roads...
TH to engineer/Denver/cinnamon pass.
Then..
Cinnamon pass to snare creek looks iffiest. After that CD to moon lake.
And moon lake to Vallecito looks iffy if wanting to stay high.
Otherwise topo/satt and eyes on in areas I visited look good.
Considering going back myself. Would need a shuttle, but starting from one of the forks of the cimarron, or big blue, and traversing the range staying high all the way down to Vallecito reservoir looks like a LOT of fun.
It has been many years, 3 decades, since I'd been in the San Juan mountains. 2 decades since being in Colorado, period. It was wonderful to visit again! July was warm and dry. August wet and windy, which continued into September and became heavy frost and snow to make a warm and dry Colorado...
I have had BigO Bigfoot AT's (31×10.50 r15) for years, with a full load in the bed for extended time out (weeks to months). Mojave, Colorado Plateau, Rocky Mountains. Snow ,mud, sand, rock. Never had a flat or been stuck. 4wd helps with the stuck part of course. And they are reasonably priced...
Eventually... I've been told it was a long time coming this year. I certainly enjoyed seeing flowers everywhere and cooler temps.
Started the 3rd week of April at the Wedge overlook, wandering around for a few days enjoying views and relaxing.
Then down low along the Black Box.
Then back...
My son plays harmonica on this album. They're touring right now, mostly small venue bar/club, but some actual headliner or opener concert hall gigs as well. Obviously I'm biased but this is honestly in my top 5 albums.
Just want to brag on my son a little, and he deserves it. His main project, Bitches in the Beehive, played at the Bridgetown folk festival in Portland, Oregon over the weekend. This is at Starday bar next night, some early jamming. He's the little guy on harmonica.

Was hoping to get in one more mountain BP. But smoke is a buzz kill deal breaker.
Smoke rolled in here tonight, filling the air here in Washoe Valley. Not sure how much of the Sierra is affected, but surely the Crystal Range is smokey.

Anyone here familiar enough to know which of the river valleys, along the way to a trailhead, would be the best bet for hearing Elk bugle? Seeing them would be cool too.
