It has been many years since i have traveled the Hole in the Rock Road, and It did a number on my Bronco's suspension. That road was ridiculous.
I don't think washboarding even that bad will keep anyone away from that road, people still want to go there. It just costs them money on repairs.
Thanks for all of the input. I will be looking more closely at the Scarp in the coming days. I have checked out the Portal 2, watching their youtube videos, and I am impressed with the structural design of the tent, and the attention to detail regarding the inside and outside guy wiring.This...
I try not to subject myself to high winds or massive storms either, but unfortunately Tex's Riverways will not refund your money for bad weather. So I try to make the best of it.
I have had some bad zipper experiences lately, from tents to jackets. So a new tent was needed. This was a fun process, but time consuming. My wife finally said "just buy a tent and stop looking", not using that exact language though. I will not be backpacking very much anymore, if at all...
It weighs a hair over 4.5 lbs. Before the zippers went south I was going to buy a pair of carbon fiber poles, which would have put it at 4lbs. Not really UL I guess.
I have been looking at the Tarptent Double Rainbow DW, not 4 season, but it looks like a good sturdy tent for 2.5 lbs. Pricey though.
I have recommended this before, but if looking at the stars is not a priority, the Bibler (now owned by Black Diamond) I-Tent is absolutely bomber. It is under 5lbs, 4 season, single wall, 2 pole and freestanding. I have been in 60+ mph winds, never hand to hold onto it, never leaked. And you...
I agree with this.
One caveat, I do obey my wife of 42 years, as she controls the money. But I do all of the cooking, which tends to even things out.
I do adore my IPhone, because it is titanium and beautiful and has a truly amazing camera.
In closing, as an aging hipster (I do not consider...
I have had trips down Meander and have not seen anyone, other than Tex. The jet boat might not be every day, and they come by once around 9am and then around 2pm on their way back, you see them for about 5 minutes each way. And when I get on the jet boat for the return, sometimes I am the only...
A few shots from a 1992 climb of 14,250' Mt. Wilson near Telluride. Quite the adventure. Especially the last 40' or so
Mt. Wilson left of center, El Diente far right.
A shot from the summit towards El Diente:
A shot looking generally south, with Lizard Head on the right, and Sunshine...
Thanks @Janice.
The problem is that I am not wise. Do I want to see what is on the other side? In this case it was decidedly a yes.
@Bob probably knows where this is.
This ruin is probably my favorite on Cedar Mesa. I am always fascinated by these places, how desperate they must have been to live here. The first shot is one of those death drop defensive entrances, where you have to cross a chute that slides off of a 100' drop. I am a coward when it comes to...
