Today the center of a large low pressure system moved over my area, making for some dramatically unsettled skies. Classic Spring skies for us here. In the photo is a side channel of the Missouri River.
Sandhill cranes are pretty cool. They sound positively prehistoric. Gotta be careful with Nebraska though, there's some sketchy characters that live there!
That story shows up from time to time, it seems to be a part of WInds lore now. In 2013 I hiked through the Brown Cliffs/Bloody Hell pass, and we stopped for snacks by the tarn where Mike Turner got trapped. It was unsettling to think of what happened there. We sat with good weather and pikas...

Here are a couple photos. Elbow from above to the East
This is I think an unnamed lake between elbow and the golden lakes. Took this as we walked...
Phone number is for the Kanab field office. They ought to have added the phone number for Garfield County Public Works department so they get to field calls about the road also.

Don't feel too bad, I've misidentified plenty of fish over the years, trout and even local species included! There are definitely goldens out there in the Sierras.
I'd happily catch whatever was biting in that excellent scenery!
Thanks! I may have spoken too soon... that Hidden Creek trip looks like something I need to do. You're going to have to count me in on that one instead, it looks amazing.
Hmmm... an ultra epic Hidden Creek expedition? I'm intrigured... realistically I think I can only commit to one of these hikes though. For now count me in on the original trip of discussion on this thread.
The same could easily be said of me, so we're probably an even match in that regard.
I am quite curious about this August route... need details for best use of limited vacation time. If it's in the Winds it may be an easy choice.
Big fan of CalTopo, been using it for many years. I spend a ton of time on it.
Google Earth is pretty handy also, though I often now just use the Google Satellite layer in Caltopo because I can switch seamlessly between a satellite and topo/other map view at a given location, which I have...
