The Mystery of Kim and Carole

Thank you very much for the kind words. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family. I'm not as active on this site as I used to be, so I apologize for not seeing your post sooner. If you or anyone from your family ever has questions that I can help answer, please don't hesitate to let me...

    A Month in the Ditch

In a word, floatation. I don’t have a solid roll so anytime I flip in a hard shell, it’s a swim. The packraft has great primary stability and while a roll also means a swim, I could more easily self-recover.

    A Month in the Ditch

The following is a transcription of my handwritten journal from a nearly month-long trip down the Grand Canyon of the Colorado. Slight edits have been made to remove personal information. Grand Canyon of the Colorado November - December, 2021 with Collin, Graham, Jason, Tyler, Steve and Nick -...

The Mystery of Kim and Carole

Unfortunately, I have never personally had access to the negatives nor do I believe KSL did. I can’t say for sure but I’m of the understanding the reporter who did the story in 2006 only had prints.

    Dry Tortugas NP (FL)

Jealous. This has long been on my list. Loved the hermit crabs and little turtles.

    FS: Canon 6D and lens

I’m beginning the costly transition to a new camera system. That means my workhorse outdoor camera and favorite lenses are on the block. Canon EOS 6D $750 20.2 megapixel full-frame digital SLR Purchased in 2013. This has been my primary camera for the last 7 years. It’s been to the depths of...

    Uintas Conditions 2020

FWIW, bugs were already out up on Monte Cristo this weekend. Slight breeze kept them down but any time the wind stopped, they were in my ears. As for the Uintas, Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest is pretty good to follow on Twitter for updates on road/trail status. They tend to post every...

    Hyperlite Face Masks

Isn't that a Hyperlite thing though? Like, shouldn't you scrape it up on some sandstone for that authentic look?

    Uintas Conditions 2020

I was up to Bear River Lodge area about a week ago. Mostly clear with isolated drifts at the 8,500 foot level. As already noted, solid snow on the peaks.

    Backcountry bookshelf

Great recommendations everyone. Some I’ve read (loved Emerald Mike), some I know I should read but have not yet. Some I’ve not heard of. Good stuff.

Listened to the audiobook of this a couple of years ago. Great selection!

    Backcountry bookshelf

Looking to stock a bookshelf at the family cabin. Figured I’d turn to BCP for some suggestions. So what are the best outdoor-related books you’ve read? Looking for recommendations for both children and adults, with a mix of fiction and non-fiction (excluding guidebooks). To get things started...

    COVID-19 Affecting Your Plans?

Many of these people are getting in cars together, they’re eating together before or after, they’re handling one another’s equipment. And if you’re hiking with people other than those you are isolated at home with, you’ve now widened your circle of possible contagion. Is it as high risk as...
