Awesome, good to know, thanks.
Would it be less sketchy to go the standard route and not use the shortcut? I know ot would be longer but I have read it would be easier. And not in a day of course. Trying to keep my kids off of too many cliffs until they are a little older.
Would getting to that alcove and back be an okay day trip? My daughter who is 10 really want to go on this hike with me but I would like to hike those exposed parts first to see what its like.
Wow, that second to last picture is just incredible. I could never do a hike that long but looking at those pictures makes me want to attempt it anyway!
That looks like an an amazing trip, in an amazing canyon. I wonder what it is that people don't like about it? In looking at those pictures it would be on my list for sure if I had the rope skill necessary to check it out.
Looks awesome, I really need to head back out there. I have been to the Needles once and reading over your post makes me want to try back packing part of it.
Glad you were able to make it all the way from NY, that's a long haul (but obviously worth the effort). There are some great people on...
Yeah, that sounds pretty awesome. I didn't have much a of a plan other than the 3 canyons I did when I was near Powell, once I realize how close I was to CR I just went driving all over the place :)
Looks like I am heading back down for Memorial Day so maybe I will see you there. Going to head...
Thanks for that info, it really helped and there where a lot of good tips buried in the gun/no gun debates :)
For the record I did bring mine but it was more trouble that it was worth and I left it locked in my Jeep the entire time.
Nick/Opi, having down the solo trip now I can agree. When I was out in the canyons hiking around it was awesome. Back at camp it was a bit odd being the only person there at a developed campsite with about 15 sites. It was kind of creepy like the place had been abandoned.
Not sure how I missed getting a picture of the campground but yes, it has a lot of trees. Actually when they have leaves on them (they did not yet when I was out there) it will be very shady. Thursday night there was a pretty big storm lots of wind and rain. You could hear the wind really build...
Day 3, Capitol Reef:
I had no intention of hiking the trails over in Capitol Reef but I have always wanted to finish driving the Burr Trail. I have been on all of the parts except for this section near Lake Powell. There was a dirt road that left right from my camp and headed out towards the...
Day 2, time for some canyons:
Because I was on my own I did not hike as far into the canyon as I normally would but it was a lot of fun dropping into more canyons and then hiking in 4 or 5 miles then backing out and checking out another one.
Got up early and took a drive and a short hike to...
So, this is my first solo trip and it was a blast. I had several people lined up to take this trip with me but due to various illness and life events this turned into a solo trip, my first ever. There was a break in my schooling and other reasons so this had to be the weekend that I went. I had...
