    Windy Lake - Wind Rivers

Yeah we stopped the jeep before the Gustave outlet, but I saw those rocks and I think I could've handled it if I chose my line carefully. The issue was that we were running out of gas. I fished the creek out of Windy just long enough to catch a couple goldens, and then packed up and headed out...

    Uintas - Toomset/Ostler/Amethyst Lakes

I just got back from a two-nighter up in Amethyst Basin area. I got to the carpark at 4:30 PM and made it up to Toomset by 6:30 PM, so I was clipping along at a good pace - 45 mins for the first 3 miles, then 30 mins for that damned uphill. I schwacked through the trees across the river...

    Uintas Conditions 2015

Hi Everyone - has anyone fished Ostler or Amethyst Lakes recently? Would love to hear how it went, size of fish, what they were taking, etc. Feel free to PM me if preferred.

    Windy Lake - Wind Rivers

We stopped just uphill before the Gustave Lake outlet, about half a mile back up the road - the high point on the contours right above the 10228 peak.

    Windy Lake - Wind Rivers

We stopped just short of Christina Lake because we were getting really concerned about running out of gas. Having the Rubicon edition of the Jeep helped a lot as I used lockers for several sections of the trail. I think we would've been fine making it all the way to Christina Lake. The trail was...

    Boulder Mountain

Brad, in August it was not too cold at night. Similar to Uintas...I had a 35 deg down bag and was comfy, and walking around at night I wore thermal bottoms with hiking pants and I was fine. I just went up the Boulder Mountain yesterday and to my dismay they have drained Left Hand Reservoir...

    Timpanogos Wildflowers

We headed up to Timpanogos a week ago - 18 July 2015. Camped at the rim of the basin, caught a wild storm and subsequently a wild sunset. There is a lot of indian paintbrush up there right now (or at least a week ago). The whole trip report is here.

    Windy Lake - Wind Rivers

Here's a video from the trip: I went out to Windy Lake over 4th of July weekend and the trip had left a bittersweet taste in my mouth...mostly bitter though...and stinging with mosquito bites. We drove up Christina Lake Road, which turns out to be quite a rough one - glad we had the Jeep. We...

    Buying your way lighter.

Grab the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL 2 at 2 lbs. Get rid of all your extra clothes (just wear your clothes + have thermals/jacket in the pack). Make a cat-food-can alcohol stove, and bring just enough fuel that you need.

    Insect Repellent

I used to use the REPEL spray 100% deet, and now I use the 3M Ultrathon lotion. It is fantastic. The time release really works. It keeps SWARMS at bay. They even make a version with a sponge applicator to keep it off your hands, though it sounds better in theory. DEET sure does taste funny...

Wind River - Looking for fish (of the Golden variety)

That looks like a useful book, though my only worry is if the material is dated. For example, I picked up Rich Osthoff's "Fly-fishing the Rocky Mountain Backcountry" a couple years ago and used that as a basis for a trip, and then found that some of the lakes he said were teeming are now barren...

    Boulder Mountain

I made it up to Beaver Dam, Fish Creek and Honeymoon 3 weeks ago. I think the lakes were turning, as they were a little bit murky. Tons of midges, and a rare rise, no real surface activity and no cruising fish. A friend of mine was up that way this past weekend. He had plenty of surface action...

Wind River - Looking for fish (of the Golden variety)

Hi All! I'm planning a trip into the Wind Rivers for Labor Day weekend. I went up there two years ago and found it to be one of the most amazing places I've ever hiked. I headed out from Elkhart Park and did a big loop, initially going West toward Glimpse Lake, then up to Elbow Lake, then over...

    Big Tents

I gotta say, I've got the REI Kingdom 8 with the garage and we freakin love that thing. It is palatial! However, we don't really camp with it on slickrock, really only use it when car camping.... Here is a shot from the inside, camped out at Jug Hollow by Flaming Gorge Reservoir...
