    Hollow Top Lake

Thank you for the write up! I have a good chunk of in-laws that live in Pony and my wife has many fond memories from her youth. Every time we visit, I try and find a way to sneak up towards Hollow Top, but the best I can do is stare and imagine. The photo of Deep Lake is great! Looks like a...

    Permits 2019

I entered as a non-resident, just like you ;) I've been down twice and pulled a permit twice. Also been invited a few times more but hadn't gone. I'm looking at doing a Ruby-Horsetheif in May and will have to do some juggling to make them both work. So.. you are saying you are looking for...

    Permits 2019

Struck out on river permits except for the late round Smith. Pulled one for 5/25 over memorial day.

Ski Mountaineering the Highland Mountains, MT

I really wish that lookout was still operational enough that it was available for overnight reservations. Red looks good in white!

How do you like living in the SLC area?

Hey Missoula, I moved from Butte to the SLC area a little over 10 years ago so I may be able to offer a little bit of insight. I've also spent a fair amount of time in Missoula, and if we ever move back, that would be high on the list, although I understand the issues of land available for...

    The San Juan, May 2018

I’ll message you the shuttle service. I hold no ill will, but a quick map showing where the vehicle will be parked would be useful. Also most of my river experience is in Montana where the shuttle vehicles are often parked near the river at takeout, so I was a bit naive.

    The San Juan, May 2018

Great report Nick. Seeing your pictures makes me want to get on the lower section. They also remind me of an issue that we had that was borderline disastrous. Still makes me shudder a little thinking about it. A few weeks before your group, I tackled the upper section with my dad, sister, and...

Never-ending growing photo collection at the top of my daily hike...

I'm curious which side of Lewis you tackle this from? Either way, impressive!

El Capitan, Bitterroot Mountains, MT 08.19.2018

Wow, impressive! Thanks for the TR. The shot on instagram was impressive, the backstory even more so. Remind me to think twice before meeting up for a "dayhike" with you

    Sawtooth Wilderness

Man, we did a similar route from Redfish Lake to the Tincup trailhead in 3 days. I am impressed you went from Tincup all the way to Cramer Lakes in one day. You could have dayhiked what we spent the weekend doing! I also just wanted to reply to say, Go Grizz!!

    2018 River Permits

I scored an early May Upper San Juan permit, which I'm pretty excited about. Hoping the weather is mild enough to take my 5-year-old. I drew a Smith river permit last year, so I personally didn't put enter this year, but am hoping someone else from the group scores. I agree with how painful the...

    Careers of Backcountrypost.com

I'm a system administrator for county government based out of Farmington. I work a 4-10 schedule which allows me the option of 3day weekend adventures or a day that I can carve some outside time for myself. More often than not, I'll keep my kids home from preschool/daycare and try and spend...

    Teton Crest Trip 2018

Mike is right. Hiking from Death Canyon Shelf, over Mt Meek pass all the while having the Grand staring you in your face as it slowly grows is worth it alone. Not to mention the truly jaw-dropping view as you look down Hurricane Pass into South Fork of Cascade Canyon. I've also come down North...

    Sperry Chalet lost in wildfire

This really bums me out to see something so iconic that has stood for so long...fall. I had one day hoped to stay up there and experience it with my family. I guess that means I really need to double down on Granite Park. You are lucky. Also, Veiser officiated my step brothers wedding in...

    Gunsight Peak 6/9/2017

I always look at Gunsight Peak as I drive along I-15 going back and forth to MT. Thanks for the TR! You haven't been up there yet? I'd recommend waiting until Fall/Winter/Spring so you don't spoil the experience, but it's great.
