Mosquito season is still in full force. Did a quick jaunt up to Four Lakes Basin and up Cyclone Pass to take a look around. What a difference a month makes. Pretty much all of the snow is gone.
Hey all,
I am bouncing the idea of a 5 day hike from Chepeta Lake to Hayden Pass along the Highline Trail. I have hiked fairly extensively from Hayden to Dead Horse Pass, and I have done Painter Basin and Anderson Pass when I did Kings Peak a decade ago, but my memory is getting old and I can't...
I've never climbed it through snow, but my recollection is that it is a pretty steep slog. If I were doing it, I'd probably bring crampons and do it first thing in the morning hoping it was nice and firm. If you use trekking poles, you could also rig a whippet as well.
Had a great ride last night in Park City. Started up just a little before 7:00 and hit the car at 9:00. This is the perfect time to ride in my opinion, it's cool, the wildlife is out, and very few people on the trail. Made it to the top of Apex right about the time it got nice and dark...
I spent last weekend backpacking along the duck lake, long lake trail. Drier conditions up there than I can remember ever being. It got cloudy each day and we say 6 or 7 raindrops, but that was about it. Nice not having any mosquitoes though.
Wow, I am kinda surprised how many non Utahn's are on this site. Seems like when this place started it was all Utah folks. Kinda cool that it grew this way over the past few years. It's kinda interesting, a few years ago it seemed this place never got any traffic, so I didn't come around all...
We once camped near a guy in the Swell and he had one of those open frame generators cranking away about 24/7. Luckily we were in an RV too so it wasn't quite so bad.
I am probably just being punished by karma for all the times I kept people up in my teens and twenties. But now I'm a cranky...
So what's the deal with campers thinking a fire is an excuse to disturb everyone within a quarter mile until 1:00 in the morning? Earlier this spring I finally had to yell at a group in Moab at about 1:30 AM to stfu after they restarted the Led Zeppelin tunes. No trees, surrounded by cliffs and...
I find the more I ride the more I crash. lol. Luckily they are usually slow speed crashes, though I did bruise my ribs pretty bad when I went over the bar one night on Mueller. Going down at speed at night is quite the experience.
Agreed. I have a shop about 5 minutes from my home, but prefer to drive the 15 minutes to BE if I need something. How do you like the Sight? I almost pulled the trigger on one this spring, but went with an Intense instead. Had a little traffic jam in Park City a few days ago with this happy family.
I had a similar experience there a couple years ago. I just bought a new backpacking tent and had a pole break on the 1st night out, while it was set up in the tent. It was probably during 15 mph wind and I was just laying there in the tent and it snapped. I'm guessing there were some micro...
A little off topic, but incidents like this are exactly why my kids never leave my sight when we are in areas like this. 2 years ago we were camping at 3 divide lakes and one of my buddy's made a "helicopter parent" dig at me for not letting my then 5 year old leave camp with the other kids...
I can't recall where I heard it, but what Nick said is also my understanding. I also assume that if the jug was back at camp, that would have been a big deal and would have been more publicized. Plus, if he shot out for a quick morning hike, wouldn't an experienced hiker at least take a pack...
I thought about that as well, but I think they said the 2 gallon water jug was missing. I can't see him taking that on a cross country hike. I'd assume he would have had better water bottles. Either way, it is really a sad deal.
I thought about this one, but already took my son our there earlier. Trying to keep things fresh for him. I think Long Lake will probably be the ticket since there are quite a few options for fairly short hikes. Plus I haven't been down that trail for probably 10 years. Thanks for the...
Hey all, I am working on planning a little backpacking trip with a few little ones ages 6-15 for the Uintas. Problem is, I have a few heading up Friday and a few heading up Saturday, though both will come out on Sunday. Any ideas on a 3 day trip with a max of around 2-4 miles per day, where...
