    5 days in the Smokies

@scatman, is Noland Creek named after your mother's family? I've hiked a long section of the Noland Creek Trail before, and that's where I saw my first cemetery site.

    5 days in the Smokies

I've done quite a few hikes in the Smokies out of Bryson City and have found 3 different grave sites. Each one makes me stop and ponder just how rough the people who lived in those times had it. All the infant grave stones were very sad. Once I find these sites, I always spend 15-30 minutes...

    Album Wildlife

Out of all the animals in Yellowstone, I still think the Bison is the most impressive. I think it's mostly because of their size and strength. They seem so docile, yet you can tell just by looking at them that they are immensely powerful and rugged. Got to take these ultra up-close pictures of a...

    Album Wildlife

About half-way up to Mount Washburn in Yellowstone. I was firing off shots of this bear when he decided to show off his backside. Didn't think much of the photo when I first looked at it, but after looking closer, I was amazed at the detail of the pad on his hind paw. Never seen that before.

    St Mary's Glacier snowshoe

Thanks...the Renegades are nice boots. I had a pair I used for snowshoeing a few years back, but switched over to Salomon. I've got OR and Black Diamond gaiters. Love my Black Diamond.

    St Mary's Glacier snowshoe

Nice write-up. I've been out snowshoeing in conditions like that in Yellowstone before and can feel the cold as I type. 8 degrees isn't too bad, but when you throw winds like that in, it can get downright dangerous. What boots are you wearing?

    New Cooking Pot Needed.

I've had a Jetboil Flash for some years, and have always just boiled water for my Mountain House meals and it has been fine. With a pot, I might be able to do a little better than MH for my dinners. I really like the Knorr brand side dishes that we eat here at home. I know it takes just boiling...

    New Cooking Pot Needed.

In the hunt for a new pot for backpacking. The MSR Ceramic Solo Pot has caught my eye, as well as the Toaks Titanium 900ML pot. The MSR Solo makes sense being it's ceramic coated....or is it? Never had a Titanium anything. Are they good for cooking? Any other suggestions are welcomed.

    New Water Filter Needed...Suggestions??

Just a follow up on my OP. My Platypus GravityWorks 2.0L showed up on Friday. Super easy set-up. Filled it with tap water to give it a test run. Very impressed with the flow rate. Super lightweight as well. Definitely going to like this system.

    New Water Filter Needed...Suggestions??

I was looking hard at the BeFree Kyle, but after reading the reviews online, I had second thoughts. When all the negative reviews are all about the same exact problem, I tend to stay away from a product like that. Good luck with yours. I think it's a great concept, but they've obviously...

    New Water Filter Needed...Suggestions??

Thanks for all your reply's fellas. Some good info to go forward with, but I think @slc_dan hit the nail on the head. Platypus all the way for the win. Simple, easy, lightweight, & a no brainer. Platypus Gravityworks 2L will be my next filtration system.

    New Water Filter Needed...Suggestions??

Thanks LB, but never been a fan of the drops or tablets. Hadn't heard about any major problems with the clogging of the Squeeze. I talked to a sales guy at REI today who did the full PCT for 5 months with the Squeeze and had not one problem.
