If you're not precious about the ethics involved, you can find generic Chinese knock-offs of the Capture One clip on eBay for about 1/3 the price of the original. They're usually sold as "quick release camera clip" or similar. I've thru-hiked the PCT, CDT and a bunch of other trails with mine...
Well, a permit from the PCTA is not required but various permits are required to legally complete a thru-hike of the PCT. The PCTA permit just saves you having to apply for all the different ones individually.
Here's a few funny/immature ones for you.
No snowballs - Mt Laguna, CA.
Butt Mountain - Lassen National Forest, CA
Burstarse Creek - Castle Crags Wilderness, CA. Sounds painful!
Yeti danger - Somewhere in Mt Hood National Forest, OR.
Ooh, fun game - I love catching the signs! I think I have a pretty good collection considering I'm not from the US :) I'm gonna break the rules though because I'm kinda camera shy and don't really like posting my face all over the internet, sorry!
Here's mine though. I'll mostly stick with NPS...
It's also an area of huge spiritual and cultural significance to the Navajo. I would say I don't quite understand why some are so eager to flood it but poverty is rife on the rez and I guess everyone loves money?

Super interesting and informative thread! I found myself wondering the exact same thing when I was in MT earlier this summer, my first time hiking in grizzly country. I camped alone a couple of nights in the Bob Marshall Wilderness (highest density of grizzlies outside of Alaska) and this ran...
I made the switch to a quilt this year and picked up a Katabatic Alsek. Along with Nunatak, Katabatic are considered the "gold standard" of quilts, so they're not the cheapest but you definitely get what you pay for. Their pad attachment system is also regarded as the best out there. Man, I love...
Just a couple recent ones from MT...
Spotted Bear River, Bob Marshall Wilderness
North Fork Sun River, Bob Marshall Wilderness
Straight Creek, Scapegoat Wilderness
Great pics and report! I visited Glacier for the first time at the end of June and hiked through the entirety of the park on the CDT, from Chief Mountain to East Glacier. There's a few spots in your pics that I recognise - I camped at Old Man Lake, went over Pitamakan Pass (the forest on the...

The asphalt is coming... :-(
All this political nonsense made me re-watch this great short documentary.
"This is one of the most beautiful places in the world. It's just too beautiful of a place to turn into this industrial sacrifice area."
