While I completely agree with this, I feel a lot of this problem stems from the fact that in many instances you do not get even a partial refund if you cancel a permit. That does not really give much incentive for a person to cancel a permit they won't be using. Agencies need to offer at least...
The more they advertise (and they do on social media), the more people apply for permits, the more money they make, the harder it becomes for everyone to get permits. It's a losing situation for everyone except them.
I'm pretty sure all of the revenue from the lottery ($6 per application) will go to Rec.gov, a private company, just like all the other lotteries for permits on Rec.gov.

Since I am not camping over Thanksgiving this year, my November is done. I had hoped to reach 100 nights before Thanksgiving, but because of a medical issue last weekend I had to cut that trip short by one night.
