A couple different trees from the Smokies

I have never seen a tree with this many burls before, they ran the whole length of the tree.

I liked the shape of this one. It looks too young, but maybe a "Cherokee tree".

If you're not familiar SEINET is a great resource that has plotted gps data for collected specimens of most species (at risk spp. they leave out the maps). It's great to get an idea if something occurs in a particular area.

Some more trees in a strange place...Doug fir stand in Robber's Roost.

I searched out and found one or two down by Anza Borrego. Are there many at OPCNM?

There are quite a few in the central hills of the monument. They only grow on south facing slopes and stay pretty small.
