Over Memorial Day weekend, 2012, Nick, neiloro, Miss Buffalo, and whitwilli and I ventured into the heart of The Maze district in Canyonlands National Park for a four day backpacking adventure. Nick delivered a highly detailed and excellently written trip report of our expedition here, in case you missed it. Highly recommended reading.

There was sweat, there was thirst, there was wonder, and there was inspiration. The mystery and intrigue of The Maze transcends what even the wildest imaginations can summon. It's a place where one wanders in hoping to find answers, but emerges with yet even more questions...

I hauled my heavy SLR gear with on this trip, but my main concentration was capturing video with my handheld Panasonic Lumix. Many months and one cruel and floundering video editing program later, the cinematic portion of our story is finally here. I hope you enjoy.

One word!! AWESOME!!!
This is absolutely cool. Thanks a lot for that great video, it brought back so many great memories.
I'm pretty amazed about the quality of your camera, it's even better than the S95.

I've been looking at a lot of maze plans lately. I'm thinking 6-7 days in there this spring. Everything in this video was breathtaking. Thank you so much for sharing.

Is the 'featured image' at Brimhall Point? I chickened out on that jump, of course I was by myself and wearing stiff off road motorcycle boots, but still...

Wow, what a nice jump. Very nice video. Enjoyed it during lunchtime. And beer at the end!! Beer and ice-cream is what I crave after backpacking trips.

Truly fantastic work, Tim. I think I've probably watched it at least 12 times now. Amazing what a well done piece like that can do to really put you right back in a place. What a great trip.

And yes, the ending was happy. But what Tim failed to capture are the consequences of drinking 9 beers and then hopping on a jet boat! Ouuuuch!! Thank goodness for the mid-way stop at Lathrop Bottom or I would have seriously let it go on the boat! Next time I'm getting one of these: (warning: the amazon product image is almost NSFW but it's not real, it is Amazon!) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BHDGEE/

I just pictured, in the scene when you open the cooler, that on top of the beer there's a stack of these things. And then I just about lost it.

L Landscapes, I see that you acquired new video editing software or learned one for this. can I ask which one?

That looks absolutely amazing. I have still yet to check out the maze or any of Canyonlands besides Lavender Canyon for that matter. Add one to the list methinks.

Thank you for the kind words, everyone.

Duke, absolutely. I've been pretty loyal to an editing software named Corel VideoStudio Pro. It's a decent introductory editing program, affordable, very intuitive, and fairly clean interface. But lately, it's been going haywire on me, and I'm discovering all kinds of bugs (or they're discovering me). I've actually had in my possession Adobe Premiere for a few months now, but have been hesitant to truly dive in--probably due to my comfort and familiarity with Corel. But after these lastest issues and ensuing headaches that sprung up during the making of this video, I'm done with it--in favor of Premiere.

Nick are you planning a trip there this year? I'd love to join anyone who is!

Awesome!!! Pretty dang windy there at times. When I saw Nick pull out the cooler of beers it reminded me of reading his story of drinking a bunch and then being stuck on a boat with water all around and having to hold it for hours! LOL!

Really a treat! Awesome! Did I see that you guys climbed up to the base of The Chocolate Drops? How sketchy was that?
