Had my first backpacking trip of the season planned for the Uintas for the end of June. Sadly I tweaked my back and had to stay home. Gave my back and extra week to rest but still wasn't ready for a full backpack so I had to make the most of the beautiful weather. The Unitas were calling me so I had to resort to good old fashioned car camping and day hiking. My 19 y/o son and brother joined me for my adventure.
We left on a Wednesday and camped at Butterfly Lake. The campground wasn't to painful until Friday night when the crowds swarmed in for the big July 4th weekend.
Thursday we headed to beautiful Notch Lake to try our luck at fishing.
Caught an artctic grayling and a few brook trout. Then headed over to check out Reid Lake. Didn't look like a good habitat for fish but was able to get a lovely shot of Reid Mountain with Reid Lake.
Then we headed over to Dean Lake but got skunked in the fishing department. Nonetheless a beautiful lake. Here is a shot of Dean Lake with Notch Mountain.
Then we got in the car and headed over to beautiful Ruth Lake. Not very often you get to have beautiful Ruth Lake to yourselves. There was one couple just leaving when we arrived at Ruth Lake. We were able to enjoy the views, mosquitos, and catch a few brook trout.
Here is a lovely view of Ruth Lake with Hayden Peak.
Then we headed up to Hayden lake which wasn't good in the fishing department but very nice in the mountain/lake viewing department. Here is beautiful Hayden Lake with the mighty Hayden Peak in the background.
On the hike out we were able to enjoy this spectacular view of Hayden Peak in a small unnamed pond.
Friday we decided to put the fishing poles away and enjoy the views from Bald Mountain. Loved the mountain wildflowers with the great views.
Great view of Notch Mountain and Notch Lake on the right.
Beautiful view of Mirror Lake, Hayden Peak, and Mt Aggasiz from Bald Mountain.
Couldn't resist a picture of one of the many cairns on Bald Mountain with the beautiful white billowy clouds.
Obligatory selfie on Bald Mountain.
Here is my brother on top of Bald Mountain.
We saw 9 mountain goats on the way down. Not the best picture when zooming in from an Iphone.
Then we headed over to the Beautiful but crowded Whitney Reservoir to try our hand at fishing. Only caught a couple of rainbows but enjoyed the good scenery. Saw moose and deer along the way. Here is a couple of shots of Whitney Reservoir.
Then we headed back to now crowded, loud, busy, yet beautiful butterfly lake where I caught one tiger trout and a beautiful sunset before retiring for the night.
Saturday we packed up and headed out of the now busy but very beautiful Uintas. Here is hoping to a speedy back recovery so I can camp away from the crowds.
