Hi All,

Sorry if there is already information on this within the forum, I have tried searching high and low but cannot find advice that is date specific.

Two of us are looking to complete a 3-4 day backcountry trip in YNP this Thursday/Friday. It will be our first time in the park and we are finding it difficult to find recommended itineraries for this time of year.

If you could provide us with some recommendations for what would make a great circular trip, that we can look further into that would be great. We have a van that we assume we will be able to park at a trail head for the duration?

We are willing to hike approx 10-15 miles per day and are fit enough to tackle decent elevation gain, without it being too full on.

Many thanks in advance,

Tom & Sarah

Check the weather report. You may not want to be a high elevations this weekend in Yosemite!

Alternatives might be Lake Eleanor and Kibbie Lake, in the nearby Stanislaus National Forest.

But you should be prepared for a wide range of conditions. Including rain, snow, and cold temps this weekend.

We had 6 inches of snow at 5,000 feet in Yosemite a few years ago in June

@tomtom86 - This time of year, you're best bet would be the Black Canyon of the Yellowstone located in the northern section of the Park. This hike isn't a loop though, just a point to point so you would need a shuttle. You might be able to pull a permit for Shoshone Lake. There is a trail at De Lacy Creek that heads south to the lake where you can then loop around the lake and then back up to the De Lacy Creek trail head. The trail could (most likely) be very wet and marshy through the De Lacy meadows and at various points around the lake but their are numerous campsites you can choose from plus you can check out the Geyser Basin on the west side of the lake. Expect wet and cold conditions.
