Okay, it took me a while to get to this point. I have to break down and ask for help. Sigh. I'm trying to write my first trip report, but I'm having trouble adding photos to it. It says my files are too large to upload, so I uploaded them to Facebook in hopes that I could add them using the URL. No such luck. What am I doing wrong?

Short answer, resize your photos before uploading. The uploader is designed to accept anything 5MB and smaller. I am going to look right now for a way to take larger images and resize them but it might take me a bit. I'll get it figured out this weekend.

In the mean time, another option for you since you are a flickr user is to just hotlink to your images. It's super easy, check out this thread: http://backcountrypost.com/forum/index.php?threads/posting-photos-from-flickr.73/

Ok. I haven't downloaded them to Flicker yet. I'm kinda anal about posting in chronological order. I'm still working on pics from October. It was hard enough to put new ones on Facebook. LOL! I'm going to call it a night. My eyes are getting heavy. Let me know if you figure out how to accept bigger files. Thanks!

Still working on this one. I increased the allowable size to 8MB but the problem is that the image insert buttons won't appear for files any larger than about 2MB.

The best solution is to just export your files from your photo editor in smaller format, like Email-Large, 1024px or something along those lines. That size of image will upload fine. I'll keep working on this though. I want people to have the easiest possible experience posting their photos. :)

Okay, I've got this figured out but it's not great news. Even though I can set a maximum file size, the image resizer still can't work with anything with a resolution larger than about 16 megapixels. So if you're shooting with a camera that has a higher resolution than that, there is no way to upload images without doing a bit of resizing on your end first. When I exported my photos to 80% of original size, they worked fine. Apparently it is a very intensive task for the server and they have that limitation in place to prevent fatal errors from running out of memory when people upload a lot of photos.

My best recommendation would be to export your photos at a medium size, around 1024px and upload those. Sorry it's not easier. :(

I just exported those photos to 1024 pixels and they still aren't uploading. Should I be using the upload file button at the bottom or is that the wrong way? That's what I've been trying.

Or perhaps try a different browser. Firefox or Chrome are great options. Internet Explorer is a disaster.

Does anyone else have this issue of nothing happening when you click the 'Upload a File' button? I've tried it in Safari, Firefox and Chrome on my Mac and it pops up with a box to select the files every time.

I'll try it on Firefox. I just updated my Flash Player and it still isn't working. I'll let you know if that does the trick.
