This is my ultimate adventure vehicle. :) Great on gas, its capability is limited only by the rider, enough gear capacity for solo trips, and it will go damn near anywhere. The only draw back is its a little chilly in the winter!
I do have a few comments on the bag. I am 6' tall, and as Nick said, slender. The waist belt is much too large for me. I have a 33" waist. On longer trips I have had to not use the snap in the belt. I had to use the excess strap to tie a knot instead. I have the shoulder strap adjusted to XL...
The picture looks familiar, but its kind of hard to tell. There is a sandstone horn about 10' back from the drop. The drop is 90' if I remember correctly. We brought along a 200' rope, which was plenty long.
A good friend of mine had some friends in town from Cali, and wanted to show them what Utah had to offer. Since they had no real canyoneering experience, we decided to take them on something short but fun. Goblins Lair in Goblin Valley was decided up, with a trip to ride dirt bikes in Hanksville...
Thanks! I had to haul my tripod down there. It got a little scraped up so I just got home with a new one! :) That part of Blue John is by far the best part. You'll have to make it down there sometime. It has a few downclimbs, but nothing that can't be done.
Finally made it down to the desert for a trip other than work! This being the first canyoneering trip of the year we decided to make it a fairly non-technical one. We decided upon Three and Moonshine the first day, and Blue John the second.
We drove down Friday afternoon, getting stuck in the...
Mine headframe near Yucca, AZ. The moon was a little too bright for this shot, but I tried anyways. I was also pressed for time, but had I not been , I would have framed it differently.
I usually take my D80 in, but somehow I wrecked the flash while crawling out of a little hole in the ground. Go figure. There is no way I am taking my D300 in there with me though. Maybe when I buy the new D800.... I'll try to get some more photos up later today.
Ahhh, Mojave Underground! Actually, I work with a few of the people in the photos, Stu and Crystal. My work truck looks like a government ride, but it is really a private company. It helps us look more official so we get questioned much less. :) Here are a few photos from my iphone, taken last...
Nice photo Nick! I guess I take the road less traveled? I was looking through those the other day, dreaming of future trips to there and the Winds. Packing the long lens for sure. ;)
Conditioning... Hmmm... Whats that again? :) I spend all my working days hiking and descending/ascending ropes. My free days in the winter consist of skiing in the backcountry or skiing at Brighton. I manage to stay in great shape while keeping the "not fun" exercises to a minimum. I dread the...
Nick! Awesome site. So whens that ankle going to be healed up? We need to get back down to the desert. There is lots of slots to be explored! Get well soon man.
