I did an early trip of this a few years ago! Absolutely my favorite hike ever! You can check out my snowy version of your pictures here.
In my last picture, you can see I ended the trip just under 50 pounds....ewwww I was pretty exhausted after all that. Congrats on the accomplishment!
There are def some odd combinations but I do believe it still is a quick way to share a location without having to remember a string of numbers. But I agree there are some pretty funny ones. Are those all made up or did you actually find all those?

If there is still snow in August you can get by with the right gear and skills.
I went last June and encountered a lot of snow. The biggest recommendation that I can give is know how to navigate without seeing a trail and don't skimp on ice ax and crampons.
