I have an Osprey Agron 70 (XL) that I use when backpacking with the kids. Such a sweet pack and so comfy when loaded up. If you end up going with a Aether I highly suggest upgrading the shoulder straps to the BioForm a\x that come on the Argon/Xenith series. I have an extra set still wrapped...
Very sad but not shocking if you've done the wave before and seen the lucky few who scored permits on the trail. During our trip last month with temps in the mid/high 90's we helped a group of 5 Japanese women who starting out hiking west (the opposite direction) directly up the steep hill from...
Sorry I offended so many people on this thread.
I get what your saying but there's no grand canyon at the end of the hole in the rock road. Its wide, graded, and 4wd is no longer necessary. Most trail heads are a ways off the main road and I haven't heard anything that says all spur roads...
Anyone else find the too many people arguement slightly hypocritical when considering the venue of this conversation. This site (and others like it) were founded on the basis of sharing information and helping people find new places. And here we are, yet again, talking about how we see too many...
Going down Aspen Grove is a knee killer for me so I would rather go up it.
Its something around 3600' from Emerald Lake to Aspen Grove
3100' from Emerald Lake to Timpooneke
I agree.
The human population continues to grow = guide books are created and sold = people see inspiring photos and videos = more and more websites share information to help people find new places to explore = more people = more restrictions as well.
There are a few certain things my book...
So why is this a Travesty unless left alone? Still lots of questions to be answered before anyone should make a strong opinion but if its as simple as making the road more durable and cost effective to maintain like the goblin valley road I see no travesty. What WOULD be a travesty is...
Pro's and Con's to each one.
Aspen Grove:
Steeper but shorter.
Passes by Emerald Lake.
Trail crosses more waterfalls.
Amazing views the entire way as you hike up.
Timpooneke:
Trail is more gradual but longer.
Emerald Lake must be done as a side trip.
Best views are really once you make it...
I hardly call driving down washboards beating the hell out of my car an adventure.
I would be for it only because I would like to save a few bucks by driving my Camry down to a few of the backpacking trail heads.
30mpg is awful nice.
I won't be buying expensive products from REI anymore. I see no sense in spending extra money for (say) a pair of trekking poles that I will only use 3-4 times a year. If they break down in 13 months I'm now forced to deal with the manufacturer for parts so I may as well get them for a better...
REI now limiting returns to one year
For years, REI’s generous return policy has earned it the nickname “Rental Equipment Inc.”
An Internet search of REI’s “100% Satisfaction Guarantee” turns up all kinds of stories about overused merchandise returned for a full refund or store credit...
