    SE Utah Bugs in May?

First off- I fully realize that each year and every locale is going to be different, but I'm wondering what the bug situation is like generally like in early May, around areas such as Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bear's Ears? The back story is that after de-winterizing our camper and pulling...

Dirty Devil home brewed 'overland route' March 2024

Thanks for taking us along on an ambitious trip. Something that I'll never do! I'll echo your comment about Alpha Direct after Jo sewed each of us long sleeved shirts last fall, which became a staple item for skiing this winter, either worn under a windbreaker for average -10c days, or carried...

    What's Cooking?

Good to see some proper camp grub! I always shake my head at friends who go with freeze dried backpacking meals when car camping.

Great eclipse photos, everybody! I failed in getting any that I was pleased with, while in SE Utah for the annular eclipse, and it was pretty much a non event here in Calgary with only about 25% of the sun covered. We did watch it while lunching on our deck, using the cheapo gas station eclipse...

    Album The Blue Hour

The sandhill cranes were off my radar until two encounters last year, when I learned from a birding friend that there are some that summer in southern Alberta, and others that are migrating through on their way north. Might as well throw in a blue hour photo, this one from camp near Escalante:

    Winter

While we enjoyed some excellent spring skiing in the mountains with very pleasant weather last week, temperatures in the mid-teens (C) over the last few days also made it a treat to ride in shorts on city pathways. Sorry, no shots of winter white legs. So I have mixed feelings about the forecast...

    Guess the spot: Utah Edition

@zionsky That looks familiar! Red Canyon near Bryce, the Pink Ledges trail if I recall correctly.

    Album Black & White

A couple from an urban ski tour this morning in a local natural area park, after a blast of winter dropped 20 cm's of snow.

This is my image, upstream from Sipapu, that had me thinking Natural Bridges: And now, our next Guess The Spot:

    Guess the spot: Utah Edition

At first I thought that I had pretty much the same picture and knew exactly where, but going back to the archives shows something very similar, but not the spot in question. It DOES look very Natural Bridges, though....

    Guess the spot: Utah Edition

I don't have any real idea, but trying to narrow it down a bit- maybe in the Kanab area?

    Album Black & White

Thunder Mountain and the Bluewater Glacier, last week near Campbell Icefield, B.C. After two winters of lean snowfall combined with hot summers, all those crevasses did not make skiing the glacier appealing at all.

The hint also had me thinking Moab. My best guess is Mill Creek.

Also curious about that, after seeing the Slickrock Expanse report a while back and looking on Google Earth. There does seem to be potential route.
