    "I Would Walk 500 Miles ..." - A Utah Adventure - April 2022 - Part 2

Noice! Some great country there... I have walked much of that and you described and photographed it well. That lower part of Dark Canyon is very reminiscent of the depths of the Grand Canyon from the north rim. Perhaps a new destination? Note: perhaps it is just me but some of your pictures are...

    Close to Spring day ......

Wild, Bob! We have had over 10" since Jan. 1. Plenty of roof problems with ice falling and breaking the deck in multiple spots and two inside drip leaks. How is your new house and roof holding up?

Who wants to pitch in to get these for @Scatman when he goes bogging?

Oh boy, I’ve been away from here for a while and I guess I have been missing some stuff :) I will have to come to Hugh’s rescue - there is no way that outfit with “Icles” would have let him self-rescue/extricate him from the bog. I just heard that story from him at dinner this week. No way…...

    Grizzly Lake - September 7, 2022

Scat, what was the round trip distance for the Holmes summit day hike? Looks fun. Far end of the Gallatins from our Electric Peak summit on the north end.

    Grizzly Lake - September 7, 2022

Very very nice pics of a great bear encounter. Thanks Scat! And you too Mountain Rabbit. I am glad there are still some whitebark pines to bear seeds for our grizzly friends. The species is sure hurting south in the Wind Rivers.

    Album Mountains & Peaks

Hi all, I am out of practice and couldn’t find our glacier photo gallery so thought I would post this one of the Bear River Glacier in the Coastal Range of Britiish Columbia. It does have a peak, called Cambria, in the center with the Bear River glacier draining the Cambria icefield. This is on...

Gila River - Gila Wilderness, New Mexico - April 18, 2022

In fact that is the place where Wilderness was invented, by Aldo Leopold when he was the head of the Forest Service if memory serves. Special place.

I do not think there is ANY photographic evidence of @Rockskipper on this site. She likes to be anonymous :)

Gila River - Gila Wilderness, New Mexico - April 18, 2022

Great trip and great report, Hugh! I am glad you got to see sign of the endangered Mexican Grey Wolf. They are struggling to build a viable population as a recovery population here. They keep getting killed. I saw no sign of them on my backpack there. Did you hear any?

    A Greater Yellowstone Loop - 2020

Wonderful account, mister! The writing and the pictures help bring it to mind but the magnitude of the adventure is not done justice. Having a serious encounter with a grizzly by yourself way back in just emphasizes the low key nature of your account. Kudos lad, you are one of my backcountry...

There was a whole thread on this here somewhere before. Years old now but may have some companies/options still in business.

    Album The dogs of backcountrypost.com

All of our dogs have had to learn that lesson, John. So we bought her some eye protection to protect her from the sun and quill punctures. Alas, she refused to wear it - it interfered with her stick chasing. So she learned the hard way. After her $400 vet visit she healed up OK with no eye...

Thanks John, how much did Darby weigh? Luna was a runt, at 30#. Darby had the same focus it seems. Did you train Darby to herd? Luna took sheep herding lessons but only for a short while. She was a natural but we weren't about to get any sheep! :) Her main job was to carry a chew toy on the...
