Backpacking Yellowstone: Fairyland Basin, Josephs Coat, Wapiti Lake, and Pelican Valley

I'm ready to go back -- 2019? On his 18th birthday none the less! It was more worried about facing the wrath of their females if they didn't make it back whole. Great memories! After that I didn't think @Joey or @scatman would ever include me on another adventure. I had two bad falls...

Mirror Plateau and the Lamar River Loop - Yellowstone National Park - July 7, 2016

@scatman -- thanks for another great adventure! It was a trip for the ages. The wildlife on that trip was absolutely phenomenal. I doubt we'll ever see a trip like that again. This fellow backpacker was very happy to reach Mirror Lake :) The two nights at 5P7 was the highlight for sure...

Unmaintained Howard Eaton Trail -- Oxbow Creek, Yellowstone (07/05/16)

I suspect 2017 will be lots of fun. I'm hoping for some big time off from work.

Unmaintained Howard Eaton Trail -- Oxbow Creek, Yellowstone (07/05/16)

For years I visited Yellowstone with my family and we thoroughly enjoyed the established trails. But then I started looking closely at the historic maps and I kept seeing this “Howard Eaton Trail” all over the park (pretty much the original figure 8 in the park). Only a few segments are...

    Mary Mountain Yellowstone

No pictures but I did mention a pair of moraines. :)

Backpacking Yellowstone's Snake River, Heart Lake, and South Boundary Trail

Bummer -- sorry! I think I'm the only one that survived without a blister. My old boots are about to fall apart but for now they are perfect.

    Mary Mountain Yellowstone

On July 3rd, @Joey, @Keith R. and Patrick decided to walk the entire length of the Mary Mountain trail. We had a 10 day backpack and a 22 mile day hike coming up so we figured we would warm up with a 21 mile day hike. Actually it’s one of several through hikes @Joey and I are working on and we...

Backpacking Yellowstone's Snake River, Heart Lake, and South Boundary Trail

I am pretty sure this Keith didn’t complain as much as the other :) The first time in my life I was part of a “Keiths”! You picked a great route – all new to me! Miserable. Absolutely miserable. The birds were a lot of fun to watch at this site – perhaps because of the abundance of...

Backpacking Yellowstone's Shoshone Lake and Mr Bubbles in May

And I notice you had two Mountain House meals. That's unusual for you.

Backpacking Yellowstone's Shoshone Lake and Mr Bubbles in May

What were you originally planning? Beer...of course! No reese's peanut butter cup? Have you switched to snickers? Resourceful! So pretty! I hear it's pretty up the Ferris Fork :) Do you suppose it fills up with silt over the winter and then people stir it up over the summer? Show me...

Yellowstone, Lamar River - August 2015

Anxiously awaiting the results -- planning my entire summer around it :)

The Old Faithful Loop - The Exploration of the Shoshone Creek and Firehole River Drainages

How about we come at it from Idaho someday and stand in all 3 states at once?

The Old Faithful Loop - The Exploration of the Shoshone Creek and Firehole River Drainages

I tell @Joey the same thing but I do notice he uses the buddy system when near wildlife. Smokejumper was cool! Some nice ponds and meadows. Great campsites!

10 Days in the Maze (video)

I guess really it's really 3L1 -- the first camp site along the Lamar. From reading the winter use rules, I figure it's as close as I will be allowed to camp (legally) near Lamar Valley . I'm hoping that means I'll hear wolves. When is Corn Dog day? I was contemplating a long weekend in Salt...

10 Days in the Maze (video)

For sure someday! We leave for Yellowstone on the 18th...I am now thinking 3L2 with Slough Creek as a back up option. Can't wait!!!

10 Days in the Maze (video)

Pothole of water...tasty! Some of the heat just looked brutal. “all that shade” J The sky the morning of the 6th was a really intense blue. I enjoyed the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers. Those were some scary ups and downs. The petroglyphs are just way too cool. I need to see...

Silver Falls, Choprock Canyon, Neon Canyon, Escalante River Loop

Walking up those narrow canyons would make me nervous. I loved the petroglyphs and petrified wood. That cotton wood really did a number on you. Such a stark contrast from you up coming Glacier scenes I'm sure! -Keith

    Wow. Just wow!

Lamar River, Mist Creek, Pelican Valley, Hot Springs Basin, Rainbow Springs and Joseph Coat Springs

@scatman told me to reserve August :). Both your suggestions sound great but I would lean towards Fawn/Sportsman/Sky Rim.

Lamar River, Mist Creek, Pelican Valley, Hot Springs Basin, Rainbow Springs and Joseph Coat Springs

Triple A is pretty awesome -- my family uses a lot more of their services than we pay for. Definitely one of the surprise hits of the trip -- especially the meadow and the pass. Agreed all around -- I need to take my family up there! Really fun stomping off trail -- all of it...
