End of March - Goblin Valley area with kids

I usually drive through Fruitia when I head to Utah from Boulder, camping near Sego Canyon. Better camping and a decent panel is right there as well. I think the area you are thinking about going to would be swell for kids, it will be gnarly crowded but us Colorado folks are used to that lol...

If you had a week in Utah...

If It was me and I had a reasonably capable SUV or truck, I'd turn off I-70 at Green River and take the Lower San Rafael Road (UT1010?) South to Hans Flat. Stopping of course at the Horseshoe bend and taking a trip over to Barrier Canyon to see that panel. Continue on to Hite UT, camping...

    RMNP - food assistance

I am way to lazy and have been enjoying Mountain House on almost every trip. It is just much easier for me to carry my JetBoil and a spoon. Here in Colorado we can usually have a fire so I can just burn off the garbage. My buddies who make their own stuff spend more time then I have available...

    RMNP Backcountry Sites

Should you go midweek or just get lucky, the Glacier Gorge Campsite is seriously sweet. It is the only one in Glacier George, my favorite hike in the park. Again, it is tough to get a permit but man it is worth it, you will be the only one in the while valley that night. My other suggestion is...

I am in Production management for my day job and I also manage a marijuana businesses workforce both in Boulder CO. One day i would like to get out of Production but I only work 13-14 days a month so it allows me to work my other gig and spend a week or so outdoors a month.

    Winter hikes/snowshoeing near Fort Collins

I hike and snowshoe all over the Front Range but don’t often get up to Ft. Collins. There are some good trails up there from what I have heard, and a killer disc golf course. If you are going down to RMNP, I would suggest hitting Lumpy Ridge, it connects to other trails and is pretty great. As...

    Bears Ears National Monument

What a real bummer. HiTR will be just another Kodachrome filled with paved roads, RV's and dog shit. I'll bet there will a big visitors center with RV hook ups and flush toilets within 5 years. Coyote is already so full of people that I skipped the last trip my hiking buddies took there.

    Colorado Springs area

Manitou Springs is pretty nice there are some day hikes in that area that are fun. If you are looking for a drive, I would suggest Pike Peak or Mount Evans. Both are pretty scenic and the both summits have great views, although I think the view from Mount Evans is the better of the two.

Smithsonian Butte Road Utah BLM camping?

There are tons of places to camp all down that road. I quick look at Googlemaps or Earth and you should be able to pinpoint a couple of spots that look promising. If all else fails just follow a turn off until you find one.

Journey Through The Maze - April 2017 (Day 1 of 5)

That trip using Tex's has been on my list for a long time. Looks like it was a blast.

Lost Creek Wilderness, Goose Creek to Shaft House.

It has been pretty dry around Boulder and I hiked near Estes Park on Saturday. It was pretty dry as well. Still waiting for Winter Park to dry up, I camp and hike around there most weekends all summer.

    Would you buy....?

I can't say enough about my Xterra. It is a newer model though. I know that the models from the first gen were pretty under powered. They added a super charger later to step it up but then moved to the V8. I don't do anything super crazy in it like jeep trails or anything but it has gotten me to...

    Coyote Gulch Trailhead

I would suggest entering through Crack-in-the-wall and hiking up the gulch and then out either Red well or Hurricane. Much easier going down the sand dune then up. The last time I was there I just stayed near the junction with the river and then day hiked Coyote.

Snow Shoes - what should I buy?

I couldn't say enough good things about my MSRs I really don't often need as much float when I am on trails during the winter. so having the detachable tails makes them more manageable. If I am cutting tracks, the tails pop on. One thing I would point out is the step that can be raised up or...

    Hello from Logan, Utah

I lived in Logan and attended USU as well. The wife and I often talk about moving back and still have some friends in Mendon. I miss skiing at Beaver and hiking Dry canyon with my dogs. Great place to be.

    Training for elevation gain?

I have been riding my bike all over the foothills the last few weeks as well as using the new stair climber at work over nights. Once the trails get serviceable I'll be hiking three or four times a week. During the summer I mountain bike at Crested Butte and Winter Park as much as possible and...
