Last year we hiked the Boulder Mail Trail from Boulder to the Escalante River via Death Hollow. We camped by the mouth of Mamie Creek which was an awesome campsite with the extra bonus of not having poison ivy on most of it. Seeing the Mamie Creek Natural Bridge on the map, I wanted to go back...
Yes, along Quail. I usually take the first side canyon to the left up and then come back that way. I really stink at forward facing stems though! I’ll have to try your way, thanks!
Mostly I take the other direction to make the loop. The one with the fixed rope and stem. It’s always a joke because I have never made that stem yet. I always fall in! I like your route and will have to try it sometime.
I thought you’d get a laugh out of it. My sharing of info has a reason as well. This area has been cut from the Monument and needs a few friends. Careful of the crypto and enjoy
We went back to Sidestep yesterday and I tried to pay attention to how we got in and out. We tend to search around for a way to downclimb in that's reasonable and here's the way we found yesterday. I also marked on our track a "cow path" that we took to get out. I use the quotes as it is...
I'm trying Astrals right now. They were recommended by some of the outfitter guides by Zion. They are really lightweight and sticky. They are actually a boating shoe.
The arch is right below the last rappel so yes you could access it without technical gear. We used beta from BluuGnome if that helps you. How far to the arch, not really wanting to give an answer as the time will vary on your upclimbing. It's really not a big arch, just big enough for a...
Yep, that’s right. We were blown away at how beautiful it was. We hiked 50 mile the day before and that was really wonderful too, making for a really great weekend. Came back the next weekend to do Neon as a technical canyon. There was lots of Outfitter pizza consumed!
There was one upclimb...
This was back in May but here in St George we've been suffering through the long cold winter (a week of rainy days) and permits are coming in for spring so I'm getting antsy. My son and I were out on the Hole In the Rock Road for a weekend and decided to explore Red Breaks including the West...
I love the way Druid Arch presents as just another fin and then when you’re hiking up the last part and turn around you see this massive arch. I’ve taken a couple people up there and wait for their reaction like a little kid with a secret.
Thanks for posting!
We just hiked the lower section of Death Hollow from the Boulder Mail Trail. I'm really allergic to poison ivy but managed to get through with a lot of diligence and walking in the water. Now, of course I'm curious about the upper. How's the poison ivy in there besides the junction with the...
I just got back from the same trip with Jess as our star guide. Bugs were probably a little worse but we had a great time! PS I still see the rocking of the waves when I close my eyes
Oh you can run into obstacles for sure, but it's still fun and there's usually a way around. You had a toddler though so that's a lot different. If you go up the wash you started up into you'll run into a small dam, not too hard to get up. Then you can decide to keep going up, or head to the...
I’ve been there three times and probably taken 3 different routes down into the canyon. It’s such a fun place and the white slots are otherworldly. The sagebrush slog is something less than fun though. Going through the side Canyons to reduce it is better.
My son had put in for permits for North Bass but nope didn't get them so we decided to try another route for our fall Grand Canyon fix. Starting out by driving in the evening to Sowats point. We had an evening of car camping with a surprise sprinkle of rain then woke up in the morning to start...
