It was getting late in the season for camping with a 2-year-old so I decided to piggy-back on my husband's work trip hotel and take the kids to Grand Junction. We left on a Saturday the last weekend of October, after the little league football game, and headed to Moab. I got their with less...
Outdoorsy, love to run, ready to race on Thursday/Friday? I need to fill slot #4, mileage is 4.3, 4.2, and then 6.1 miles. It's a beautiful course, a Ragnar Relay, so we have a team of 12, each person runs three times, the race goes from Logan to Park City all through the night. Tons of fun...
For years and years I've wanted to get into more canyoneering, and, for the most part, circumstances haven't allowed much, but also, I'm often told that the routes / hikes I'm interested in are too technical, or should be done with an experienced guide first. I'm not one to just laugh at safety...
when you move Nick or make your decision, please convince my husband Tyler as well, someplace closer to the desert spots we love so that every get-away doesn't have a 4or 4+ hour drive
I did the 2nd tallest mountain in Japan when I was there --Ishizuchisan (Stone Hammer). It was pretty awesome because the last 1/3 of the hike is up some vertical chains on the mountainside. It was rainy and foggy, not a great view from the top, but the greenery and the fog made it very...
Yeah, I figured we were pretty close to it, I had us heading that far east so we could find a safe way to head south toward the sandy track, not knowing which drainages would end up with obstacles going down and such. There was probably a faster way back, but I didn't know better, and though I...
Several months ago I saw on the internet a picture of something labeled the "cosmic ashtray," also called the Escavolcano. I was intrigued by the formation and learning it was somewhere out on the Grand Staircase made it all the better, I'm in love with that place, ever since doing a two-month...
this is something I've wanted to do for a long time, combined with the Halls Creek Narrows, there's a 20-something mile loop described in David Day's hiking book I've been eyeing to do sometime in summer probably because of cold water.
yesterday I finally began putting together my trip report and then dreamt about the hike last night. That's how much I loved it! I'll have it up in a day or two.
awesome, thanks, your map will be much appreciated. I was looking at the summitpost information and planning on marking points with my GPS. Is the route difficult to follow / find?
We have 4-5 people going so far and welcome others if interested. Those of us going have a good amount of...
anyone done this slot off Hole in the Rock Road? I"m anxious to check it out and photos of the "cosmic ashtray" look like it's pretty impressive. I'll be heading down next Friday to do the hike on Saturday, October 27. any tips or suggestions regarding?
okay, thanks for the input everyone, I decided that even though I really want to get down to that area that I'll be doing something else for this trip. I'm starting a new thread on my new plan.
Not set on backpacking, trying to get as much as I can into 1 full day, I can hike quite a bit, but will backpack in if the distance will most likely require finishing up on Monday morning before heading home.
