October 2010
I had a last minute invite to go backpacking with some friends over the weekend. I thought I'd be out of the Uintas until next year but the freakishly warm weather made it feel an awful lot like August up there. Fishing was good and they were fatties by Uinta standards, getting ready for a long winter I suppose. The lake we were at was a bit below 10,000' so we had a few colorful trees around. The ground cover in spots was also nice and red. It was awesome to get one last trip to the Uintas before the snow flies!
Here's a map with the approximate route to Duck Lake from the Crystal Lake Trailhead.

Heading down the trail to Duck Lake
Collin working one of the lakes along the way. No luck here.
Weir Lake
Pot Lake (or reservoir depending on the map)
A cool rocky part of the trail between Pot and Duck. Moments earlier we came upon a deer and the dogs went crazy. It was fun to see my doberman, Teak, running at full speed.
Soon after, we arrived at Duck Lake. Just as we arrived we spotted a deer swimming across the entire lake. It saw us and turned around and swam all the way back to the other side. Sorry, no pics.
Little dogs....
Teak
The rest of the day was spent doing what people do in the Uintas. Fishing! This is Christian and Collin.
Collin working the shoreline.
Mike and Chris near the outlet
Who has beef jerky??
Bwahahaha!
Late in the day I went back towards our side of the lake and relaxed while the others walked to a nearby lake. The light was nice.
Christian showing off some fat brookies
Springwater from a pipe. Can't beat that!
Sunset at Duck Lake
The campfire
I did quite a few star trail sets this night
Milky
Sunrise was uneventful
But the hike back was more than nice.
See you next year, Uintas.
