Rocky Mountain National Park Mid June with Kids

I am planning to visit RMNP mid June. I am aware of permits and the process. However, I have never been to the park. I was hoping to get some information on day hikes that are local favorites, good car camping sites, maybe a short 1 1/2 mile in hike to a backcountry site, and so forth. I’m...

    Album Non-Backcountry Photos

I finally caught a few classic 20 inch cutthroat trout and some others on the south fork of the Snake River with a fly rod WITHOUT a drift boat and survived to tell the story.

HELP NEEDED- Idaho in Early June for 2-3 Days

My son and his friends graduate from high school in two weeks and want to backpack around the first week of June for 2-3 days. We live in Idaho Falls. My guess is that he would need to plan on driving a few hours west or south due to snow pack. Any suggestions?

Snowshoeing With Kids: So Much Fun it “Yurts.”

I snow shoed/hiked with my family to one of the yurts near Pebble Creek, ID. I made a Pulk Sled using an REI tutorial. If you or someone traveling with you is new to winter camping I highly recommend starting out with a yurt. My kids loved it until they got cold on the way back. The yurt had...

    What did you buy today?

I scored a 1950s Eddie Bauer Karakoram jacket at a thrift store. It’s similar to the parkas on the 53 K2 expedition. I sold and it is currently on its way to a collector in Oregon who works with museums and movie sets.

    Boot upper repair

If you are only worried about waterproofing the black fabric tenacious tape (or any gear tape) on the inside with shoe goo or seam seal to help it stay in place would work. fill them with water to spot any other areas that need it as well.

Can the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite Sleeping Pad be used for this?

I have the old Thermarest chair and the xlite. It was not the best fit (older Thermarest pads worked better) but used it a few times. I’ll take a picture and post it upon request.

    Hiking attire

I really like North Face and Exofficio travel type clothes. I can tell I’m getting old because I started wearing long sleeves and pants treated with sawyers bug repellent. I used to wear the zip pants but now I don’t care about shorts much. My short sleeve shirt is a very light wool t shirt. The...

    Boot upper repair

If the issue is load bearing like the lace loops I’m not sure what you can do about it. The aqua seal might help a little but if you plan on your boots lasting a very long time you may want full grain leather. Sorry, it looks like they are on the their way to be with Jesus.
