Finally got out to Alpine loop today during work hours. My kit lens performed pretty poorly, esp in terms of flare.
Got some decent pis with 45mm.

I took off from work a bit early on Wednesday and headed up to Lake Blanche. Weather forecasts said that the storm was going to clear by sunset, but it didn't happen up here. In this pictures there was a small amount of light that filtered through about 15 minutes before sunset that helped make the scene not quite so flat. I thought it was pretty anyway. Ironically there was some pretty awesome sunset magic happening looking back towards the canyon, but I couldn't find a good comp to take advantage of it. It seems the magic always happens in the wrong direction for me.

What a beautiful shot! I think the overcast light is perfect for this mountain scene. I'm beginning to think getting the magic light and perfect comp happens as much as Haley's comet shows up.

Yeah, it only happens once or twice a year for me. Depending on how much I get out. That's what makes it fun right. Another photographer was up here on this night and it was his 6th time up here in the last 2 weeks. He still hadn't gotten what he wanted yet. He was starting to get pretty frustrated at that point.

That shot of Lake Blanche is great @andyjaggy! I've been thinking of heading up there since I've never been in the fall, so it's very helpful to see what it's looking like up there.

I drove up Little Cottonwood Canyon tonight and was completely underwhelmed by the show there. Very little color. I thought there would be more after looking at the shots posted on this thread, but it was pretty disappointing. Anyone know if there's still color along Mirror Lake Highway?

I doubt it, it had peaked up there about 1-2 weeks ago while I was up there. Probably mostly over by now.

The colors outside of Gunnison, CO, were outstanding today.

Took a few up Guardsman Pass, Big Cottonwood Canyon, UT. This was on Tuesday.

I used to think being a good photographer meant that you went to a location and got an amazing shot (naive, I know). Now I think being a good photographer is knowing when to walk away, and returning to a spot over and over until you get what you want.

Drove up through Fairview canyon today for some fly fishing, good thing I had my camera with me.

If you can afford the long drive, it's worth the visit. If I had time I would've hiked up for some better shots, I just took some shots from roadside when driving back from my Electric dam area. Colors up there are pretty amazing, especially through 8-10 mile long canyon from Fairview to Huntingdon Reservoir.
