I spent my first night of backpacking in The Maze in that exact spot in late April 2011. It looks like every rock is still right where it was when I was there. Awesome.

Finally got to break out the backpacking gear again and get in some high country before it's too late.

08-14- 08-17 - 3 nights - North Cascades NP
08-29- 08-30 - 1 night - Amethyst Basin

I spent my first solo night in the Uintas at the end of August. I was a little nervous but it ended up being quite enjoyable. A little spooky at night, but not too bad. I was amazed at how many people I actually so going solo up there, apparently I am not the only crazy one.

It was definitely the least pleasant bag night of the year for me, but it was still a bag night. I stayed in the Anderson Cove campground at Pineview with my brother and his family. They scored a pretty killer campsite overlooking the lake, but the nearby pit toilet with it's noxious cloud and ridiculous bright light quickly reminded me why I avoid this kind of place. I love sleeping on the floor of that boat though.

While it's no where near what y'all do, this was the most for me since the summer of 1980 when I slept every night in a sleeping bag in my parent's back yard.

Are you all counting car camping? And sleeping inside the vehicle also counts?

I had a sort of funny bag night last weekend. After dinner I hopped on the bike and pedaled around the White Rim from our house. Around 3 am near the top of Hardscrabble I snoozed for 2 hours (the bag night), but got back on the bike to watch sunrise on the cliffs. Eventually the day got hot and I slowed down a bit, but made the 150 mile trip in just under 20 hours. Had 5 liters of water with me, plus supplemental sips from the potholes which are all full due to the most recent pineapple express.

We have debated this before in this 15 pages of thread, K. I've been keeping track of the nights I sleep on the ground for many years so gladly joined in the thread. For ME, it is an attitude thing. If I am out on my tarp staring at the stars 30 miles from the closest road then that is ideal. But if I am out anywhere in the wilderness or near wilderness whether I am on my tarp or in my tent or even in my camper in January at -5 deg F I think I have made my goal of fulfilling my life outdoors. Meeting my personal goal of 40 nights "on the ground" each year means I've prioritized my life close to my right path, relieving the daily stress and renewing my constitution by getting back to the natural. John Muir often said it right.

Now if I could only get my life as "in order" as @DAA and @Scott Chandler and @slc_dan and @IntrepidXJ and @Bob and these others....
