I was just wondering if I hiike to natralist basin will that be far enough to get away from people this weekend. If no how far should I go? I want to take the highline trail to check iit out but I would definatly like some solitude.

I think you're best bet is Wyoming

The naturalist basin generally is busy until just before the school year begins. September is the primo time for solitude.

I'm piggy backing a similar question on to this thread. I was planning to be working in Idaho on the 24th, but I have family in town that wants to go out on the boat. Does anyone know how busy the reservoirs and state parks typically are on the 24th (on a Thursday)? Busier than a Saturday? Less? About the same? Thanks!

It's usually about the same. In my experience it's been this way. You may get lucky, and people will take the Friday off rather than Thursday.

I went to strawberry last Saturday and it may be busy but there are mostly fisher boats and the sagged was 71 degrees so if you want to jump in you can. The fishing was horrible though.

Yeah, I've been trying to delay my first Strawberry trip until later in the year when the fishing heats up. My bro in law has a cabin up there so we may end up there earlier, but the fishing does sound pretty crappy lately unless you have downriggers, etc. Far more fishing motivation than I usually can muster. We're kind of thinking Pineview again for the 24th. It's close and the scenery is nice. And the way it's looking, we might have like 11 people on board so there won't be much fishing anyway! I'm just hoping everything comes together in time and I'm on a new boat that can actually handle that many people! :)

Your Lightning Lake post reminded me of this thread, so I thought I'd post a quick report on just how busy the 24th is at Pineview. The answer: not very busy. It wasn't slow by any means, but it was a fraction of what we encountered on a typical Saturday or Sunday. We ended up with 11 on the boat and as I had hoped, it was a brand new boat that handled the load very well. Barke Diem was traded back into the dealer last Wednesday and now we're on to Barke Diem II. This one should last more than 5 months though. :)

200hp pulls a tube a wee bit better than 90. :)

My boat has a 150 yamaha and its a bad mofo. I've had it for 11 years and it only seems to get better. I used to fish pineview a lot in the late 90's and early 2000's but I quit when the fish cop actually ran over my line wile I was trolling. I had had a lot of average joes do it but when the guy keeping these idiots from me did it I said to hell with the place. Though I do have like a hundred good musky lures if you need any.
